My Ring SmartCharge4 has just packed up and as I'm considering getting an R1200RT- settle down, settle down, I'll be hanging on to the Airhead- I'm wondering if it might be worth considering getting an Optimate so that I can use it for both. Will this Optimate thingy work on an Airhead or is it meant for Canbus thingies only?

Have a look at CTEK

I've got one (similar to current MSX 3.6) and it works a treat. Leave it plugged in all the time (via optional accessory socket plug) and battery is always in tip-top condition.

Highly recommended.

I've got an Oxford charger/optimiser which I've got connected to my airhead in the garage. Works really well. Keeps it topped up if I don't use the bike for a couple of weeks. Either the bike's clock uses a lot of power or the battery's on its way out, but the charger means I don't have to worry.

The latest Optimate 4- canbus , will charge batteries on bikes with canbus system AND normal bikes. Its simply a case of changing the programming by in effect short circuiting it.:thumb2

Do you want a bettery charger or a battery tender?

If the latter, buy an Optimate 4 for EACH bike. Hook them up and leave them permanently connected unless you're actually riding the bike.
