Myself and a few friends headed off to Scotland in August for a week. General route was Holyhead, Pennines, up to Scotland and up through the Highlands ended up at John O'Groats, across the top down the west side to Stranraer and home. Great trip, stunning roads, blessed with the weather, other than a few showers we only had one wet morning (which was horrendous!). Hope you enjoy the pics. :thumb2

A good mix of bikes, Triumph Speed triple, Triumph Thunderbird Sport, Harley Sportster I think. No GPS, just lots of old fashioned head scratching at various points.

Further along the B6259.

A pause for breath after a stunning bit of road. Tire temps impressive!

B6277, just after High force (and two bike cops setting up a sneaky speed trap).

Just crossed into Scotland.

B709, what you can't see are the billions of midges on the ground. Visor to down!

IMG_4302.JPG

Never got tired of coming around a bend and mumbling things like 'good grief' and the epicness of the scenery that hove into view.

Night stop 2, Tibby Shields' Place, near Selkirk. Good beer, decent grub, stunning location.

the F800 starting to look like it could use a wash.

Looking towards Glenshee.

Semi group shot.

Glenshee Ski area. All downhill from here. Day three and possibly the best roads of the trip.

IMG_4331.JPG

I thought this might be interesting on the F800, unfortunately what looked like gravel was mostly mud! Retreat, retreat!

Reflection, and beer. Soon driven inside by the midges though. Ullapool.

Loch Ness.

And then the rain came.

DSC00514.JPG

After the rain we had a short interlude in Oban.

Running repairs we made, and there may have been a recovery van involved, luckily the fella in the bike shop knew what he was doing and we were off, good thing too as we had a ferry to catch!

Arran.

Leaving Arran.

Total trip length, about 1800 miles. :aidan

Nice one Peter. :thumb2

As you found, Scotland is fabulous if you are lucky enough to hit decent weather. :)

That looks great ,reminded me of a previous trip. Been all over Europe loads of times ,but only done Scotland once. Seeing your writeup just made me decide to go again next May before the midges arrive. There seems to be a pretty short period after the snow and cold but before the midges, hopefully will get some decent weather.

Scotch is "whisky". "Whiskey" is that Irish muck.....:comfort

Insert 'fishing' smiley here. :augie

Jochen, Arran was a flying visit, not by choice. The second last morning was spent riding through torrential rain. Just as it cleared the Harley blew it's main fuse. We thought it might have been because of the water but no joy. Eventually and one recovery van later, the guy found that the brake light wire had worn through to the copper and was shorting to the bike frame. Bit of lekkie tape later and we were off. Just about made dinner in Brodick. I was off on the first ferry the next morning to meet a mate, 20 years to the day since I'd seen him last. A catch up later and it was off to the ferry at Stranraer. Some of the other lads did the scenic thing that morning on Arran, got a later ferry (by the skin of their teeth), and had a fairly fierce blast down the road to make the Stranraer ferry (by the skin of their teeth). :blast

Great pics. Just back from the Alps myself but that would make me want to venture to Scotland next time....

great pics - off there in a weeks time so that's perfectly whetted my appetite :thumb2

Good reading, Scotland is what you make it, they have the scenery and the roads the rest is attitude and the company you keep.

Trev is this going to be a Harley run?
