Myself and a few friends headed off to Scotland in August for a week. General route was Holyhead, Pennines, up to Scotland and up through the Highlands ended up at John O'Groats, across the top down the west side to Stranraer and home. Great trip, stunning roads, blessed with the weather, other than a few showers we only had one wet morning (which was horrendous!). Hope you enjoy the pics.
A good mix of bikes, Triumph Speed triple, Triumph Thunderbird Sport, Harley Sportster I think. No GPS, just lots of old fashioned head scratching at various points.
Bend at Pendragon Castle, B6259, Cumbria.
Pendragon Castle, current residents.
Further along the B6259.
A pause for breath after a stunning bit of road. Tire temps impressive!
B6277, just after High force (and two bike cops setting up a sneaky speed trap).
Just crossed into Scotland.
B709, what you can't see are the billions of midges on the ground. Visor to down!
Never got tired of coming around a bend and mumbling things like 'good grief' and the epicness of the scenery that hove into view.
Night stop 2, Tibby Shields' Place, near Selkirk. Good beer, decent grub, stunning location.
the F800 starting to look like it could use a wash.
Looking towards Glenshee.
Semi group shot.
Glenshee Ski area. All downhill from here. Day three and possibly the best roads of the trip.
I thought this might be interesting on the F800, unfortunately what looked like gravel was mostly mud! Retreat, retreat!
Night stop 3, Tomintoul.
That's one big bottle of whiskey!
Well known landmark.
Night stop 4, Keiss. Decent curry, half and half, rice and chips!
We like bends.
GS roads!
Reflection, and beer. Soon driven inside by the midges though. Ullapool.
Loch Ness.
And then the rain came.
After the rain we had a short interlude in Oban.
Running repairs we made, and there may have been a recovery van involved, luckily the fella in the bike shop knew what he was doing and we were off, good thing too as we had a ferry to catch!
Ferry to ourselves. Last one of the day hence the deadline!
Arran.
Leaving Arran.
Total trip length, about 1800 miles.
