Well, there's not much for me to add, but I'll put some pictures up nonethe less.
I was the first to arrive at Stumpy's house, shortly followed by Packer. We were rather amazed (and very envious)at the collection of bikes in the garage. There are four '08 plate bikes there - the man has no shame
(I was going to say "That must have cost an arm and a leg" but thought better of it

).
The 1200GSA has gone (

) to be replaced by this. It looks a very nice bike but not ideal for off-roading.
Stumpy doesn't do much off-roading, but when he does, he uses this
We were joined by Skynet and Garfield and the five of us put the world to rights over coffee and biscuits. Then it was time to head out for lunch.
I was asked to lead so took them on one of my regular runs past Talla and Megget Reservoirs. I think we all took pictures of this view.
The Glen Cafe was mobbed, with GS' of all flavours outnumbering the other makes.
Some UKGSers got together, others preferred to be anonymous. Here we have (from the left):
Kenny Rodkiss, Den, Ebby, Stumpy, Garfield, Skynet (with back to camera), Packer and my shadow. We also bumped into Wicker - but he avoided the photo session.
There was a constant coming and going. Here a group are warming up before the off.
I managed to photograph some of them leaving - co-incidently all on GS' - I didn't recognise any of them but some are probably site members.
No sooner had they gone than the next batch arrived
On the way home I found it increasingly difficult to change gear, at one point having to hook the pedal up before getting the next downward change. I thought it was probably corrosion on the gear lever shaft. Eventually I was reduced to third gear only for the last five miles. I was on my 1989 R100GS, with about 57,000 miles on the clock.
When I got home I found that the welds holding the steel gear lever to the pivot bearing had failed, allowing the pedal to twist into the frame under the rear engine mounting

. Fortunately its easy to fix and I'll weld it in the morning
All in all a good day out. Thanks to Andy (Stumpy) and Fiona for their hospitality and to the others for the company. Lets hope we get a few more bright dry days this winter.
Bob.
