Supplementary 'pannier' indicators?

I have a set of Vern's Worldbeaters together with modified 'short stem' indicators so that they fit in-board of the panniers. While this is a neat arrangement, it means that the 'side angle' visibility of the indicators is quite restricted when the panniers are fitted.

I've been thinking about putting some supplementary indicators on the rear face of the panniers which could be plugged into a socket tucked under the rear mudguard as required (I don't leave the panniers fitted all the time). I've no problem splicing into the indicator feeds and arranging suitable plugs and sockets to do this but I'm having trouble finding suitable indicator units. Ideally I need to find some flat LED indicator modules which could be used in addition to the existing standard units without overloading the flasher relay / wiring.

Anyone know if this is feasible? Also, If anyone has done this and has found a suitable source of indicator modules I'd appreciate a link.

cheers

i had exactly the same concerns with the same setup on my 150adv.

what you need is a kisan signal minder and a pair of vl10 vectralights, both available from nippy norms..
you'll end up with two strips of extra bright leds on the outside edge of your panniers. these have an orange strip that face forwards and a red one that faces backwards.they function as running lights ( you can set how bright they are) and they are indicators as well........plus they go double bright when ou brake.

you also get the advantage of the signalminder- auto cancelling indicators ( you set the delay period with brake override, and you can cancel a signal by using either the same button again, the cancel switch as normal or use the opposite button to cancel.

they're superb, very bright and easy to fit on a set of vernatechs with a few 20mm holes with grommets, a cable tie or two and a tube of silicone sealant.

thoroughly recommended :thumb2

The Best solution i have seen ,, "Funny enough .

These take the std indicators back and away from the Pannier , so they can be seen again. and they work.

I did think about that, but then they look a bit of a dogs dinner with the panniers removed

I agree concerning the holes - I'm not intending to drill the panniers - I'll mount the LED indicators (when I find some) with heavy duty velcro.
