'Surging' on 1150

I know i could probably spend hours looking for the answer.. but here goes with the question...

Bought the bike last september, on constant throttle openings there is a sense of 'surging or hunting' which was annoying.
Got rid of the cat, hey presto, no more surging. Put the cat back on now and sold the y piece (dont ask) surging back.

It seems that from other threads that it could be a balance prob? Is it normal? can i do anything about it? I've screwed the lambda sensor back in....

Sounds like its going to cost me........ Had a lot of backfires with the y piece and standard can. does the non standard can and y piece produce backfires on the overrun? cheers.. Bryn

I have a Y piece and a remus can fitted it gives the occasional pop n splutter on the over run but nothing serious. I dont have any surging but can't say I noticed any prior to fitting the bits either. have fun!
