Surrey Trail Ride (Wombat Hunt)

By popular demand there is another Surrey Wombat hunt. The only date I can do next month is the 18th November.

The route is a popular trail ride using only legal Byways with hill climbs, mud, water, chalk, flint tracks and sand. We meet up at Newlands Corner car park near Guildford on the A25 - Dorking Road.

Be there or miss out on a fun day. Look forward to about 60/70 miles of dirt with a stop at a pub half way round for lunch. This is mostly for pogo stick bikes but any hero with a GS is more than welcome.

The start time is at 10:00 and expect to be back at the car park for 15:00

Err How Heroic would one need to be on a 1200gs?
I made a hash of the Hafren just gone but went round twice albeit not exactly that fast. I only have the 12 so it's that or nothing.
What do you recon?

You made a hash of stage 1 because of an argument with a steep hill that you'll not find on the wombat hunt and the other stages where completed with honor.

I did the wombat on the 1150 last year (the rest where pogo's) and held everyone up but made it... well that was till I locked the engine in the river - it was very wet

You'll not come across anything tougher than stage 1 of the Hafren and I've seen you ride and I reckon you'll get on just fine and be faster than I was on my 1150.

Oh and you're big/strong enough to pick your bike up, unlike me.

I have a snorkel fitted too. I might get to see if it actually works.

On my Airhead I run Mitas C-02's but I'm not sure I'd want them on a 1200... Mita do others and I think this guy can advise on them to

All I can say is those swedish army boys have got bigger kahunas than me.

I have army specials on the DR at the moment and their OK on the road but I agree they are too hard for the mud

Just a quickie on the Army Specials .... I chucked a pair on my 450 KTM to do a Pyreneese holiday.... and I seriously rated them on dry roads. I got around the Cambrian pretty easily too without problems.... so much so that Im leaving them on for a Hare and Hounds in a couple of weeks time because Im too tight to bin them!
Best advice I could offer is to stick about 30psi on the road and drop it to 12psi in the crud .... well thats what works for a 'portly' gentlemen of limited ability....
