With the return of some good weather I decided to take the bike out for a spin and see if my new 2610 was as good as some people had said. I rolled my 02 GSA out of the garage and set it on the centre stand. Once I had kitted up I lifted her off the stand only to find that the seat height was now down about my knees. The rear suspension had collasped.
Not being overly technical I enlisted the help of a mechanic from Hursts BMW who kindly came along to have a look
. The problem was that the spring itself had broken and part of it was missing.A slight bit of discolouration showed that it had not happened there and then but probably on the final stages,I hope,of my last ride-out. Spoke with BMW Customer Services who agreed to have the problem exaimed by Hursts and see if the item may have had a weakness. Surely 20,000miles,regular servicing and careful ownership should not have caused such failure. The implications of such a failure on the open road does not bear thinking about.
