With the return of some good weather I decided to take the bike out for a spin and see if my new 2610 was as good as some people had said. I rolled my 02 GSA out of the garage and set it on the centre stand. Once I had kitted up I lifted her off the stand only to find that the seat height was now down about my knees. The rear suspension had collasped.  Not being overly technical I enlisted the help of a mechanic from Hursts BMW who kindly came along to have a look:clap :clap . The problem was that the spring itself had broken and part of it was missing.A slight bit of discolouration showed that it had not happened there and then but probably on the final stages,I hope,of my last ride-out. Spoke with BMW Customer Services who agreed to have the problem exaimed by Hursts and see if the item may have had a weakness. Surely 20,000miles,regular servicing and careful ownership should not have caused such failure. The implications of such a failure on the open road does not bear thinking about.

Badger,

20k? I'd say you did very well to get that mileage out of one. I know several, mine included, that didn't last more than 8k. Mine was replaced under warranty at 4k and that failed again at 12k - just out of warranty :(

The standard shocks are pretty shite and not the quality you should expect on an expensive bike. but then they are Japanese

ive got some adventure shocks if you need some or you could upgred to hyperpro (they transform the bike !!) craig 07950399080
