Is the stock rear suspension from a 2002 1150 rebuildable? If there are different types, what do I need to look for to identify if it is rebuildable?

my 1150GS needed the rear shock re-gassing at about 108k. Took it to these guys and they did it for about 60 quid:

not sure whether ths is the same issue that you have, but had the shock needed new internal components, they can fabricate them on site.

good luck!

Not sure, but i'd suspect so, as i don't think there was much difference between my 2000 & 2003 models.

Someone like Steptoe would know f'sure tho...

I got in touch with a guy in Cork who does suspension rebuilds and he told me the standard shock couldn't be rebuilt, but folk here have said they can and recommended a place in UK. For me postage cost makes that prohibitive, so putting up with what I have for now (not too bad, just think it could be better - I have to turn the preload right up to get it working OK)

Had mine done recently. Regassed. No new spring. Although it appears they can be done as well.

Prices seem to vary widely. So shop around.

One thing is when it comes back you will need to make a little bit of space in your frame to get the shock back in. They re-gas it with something akin to a grease nipple. Its time to get the angle grinder out. But nothing too drastic.

It would appear the standard GS front shock can't be redone. Its a cheap nasty thing anyway and doesn't get the same punishment the rear one does.

I had my r80 para shock rebuilt by moto technic in dublin
This was the non rebuild able BMW shock
Price was very good and shock transformed the bike
