Looked at my suspension over the weekend,

Way to hard for my liking, skipping and hopping over bumps..

The preload was wound all the way in, so i backed that off to just under half way,

Not as bad, but still felt was too stiff,

Checked the rebound damping, wound all the way to hard!

Used the setting from the handbook, and what a difference, the bike actually settles when i

get on it!

Looking at the front unit, it says it should be on position 3.

Its been set to position 2, so I'm guessing the last owners were a lot heavier than me,

Will i see much difference if i move it to pos. 3? or should i leave it?

What do you people have yours set at?

When i bought my first GS a hex head without ESA ( new) I thought the suspension was bloody brilliant on the settings that you have mentioned but after a while i started to find that it was too soft and wallowy for hard cornering but super for a nice gentle tootle or a motorway

If i stiffened it up the opposite became true

I solved the problem with some wilburs !

Assuming that setting one equals lowest preload, don't start me on harder/softer springs 😠 then setting two is plusher than setting three. It will give a more compliant ride as there increased sag.

Best bet is get them rebuilt at approx £100 each, same again in cost, if you want weight specific springs.

If it is a small knob = white power ; bigger knob = showa.

Front: Position 2 is generally the best if you are under 15 stone.

Rear: Set preload solo, adjust mirrors to suit. When carrying load/passenger, add preload till the mirrors are right. This makes the geometry/ride correct.

Who can do this please?

Val.

I used K-tech, they have lots of dealers nationally; mct are another. There may well be a local moto-cross dealer, worth trying.

I paid £390 for full rebuild and more appropriate springs.

This was after I spent £1,000s at Hyperpro. High/low compression , rebound, rear remote preload and springs for weight fully laden .
I now have spare gsa shocks I can use when hyperpro are getting serviced

I have found the rebound setting has the most effect on handling. When its right I can take my hands off the bars and she rides straight. Corners perfectly too. Not suggesting you use this as a method of checking.
