Swapping the fuel filler cap around - Possible?

I would think that's an excellent reason not to let pimply youths near one's bike

I know it's counter-intuitive, but you can tip as much petrol on a hot engine with no need to worry...as long as your ignition is off so there's no spark to act as an ignition source, it won't go WHOOOOOOF!

He covered me in fuel and I can tell you, it's the fastest I've ever got off a bike.

Many years ago, up North like on the A1, there used to be a little old lady with a headscarf come out to fill up my GT500 (Suzuki).

Twice in a row she overfilled it and I sat watching petrol vapourising off a hot engine. Always avoided it after that.

A long time ago at a non self serve station, I once stayed on a bike whilst a pimply youth filled the tank. He covered me in fuel and I can tell you, it's the fastest I've ever got off a bike. Fortunately, there was no fire, or I'd have been toast! Now, I never sit on the bike whilst re-fuelling!

In Australia, it is illegal to sit on the bike while refuelling.

...its also illegal for a taxi driver not to have a bail of hay in his vehicle in Australia or wear pink trousers in the afternoon in the state of Victoria.

Ever thought of just standing in a different place when you fill up?

I NEVER get off the bike to fill up. I slide my credit card into the pump, then I fuel the tank, and then I"m off, without every getting off the bike.. I have not reversed the cap, by the way, but considered doing it, and have been emailed some pics of people who have.. it's a painless operation if you are somewhat handy with a dremel cutting tool, or you could hack it by hand.

You don't need to do all this stuff...I just undid all the screws holding the cap assembly onto the tank, pulled out the little rubber wedges and put them back @ 180 degrees (it didn't really matter that there weren't little slots for them anymore), put the cap back on @ 180 degrees and screwed the whole lot back together again.

I don't know how you managed to rotate the filler cap without making room for the hinge. Once rotated, the plastic blocks the hinge from fitting properly and I don't even think you can just squeeze it down.. Care to explain how you fitted the cap without cutting some plastic to make room for the hinge?

p.s. I tried to just squeeze it into place, without cutting and there's no way it was going to fit and work properly.
