Apart from a bit of clutch drag, hence the clonk into 1st gear my gearbox seems to be getting sweeter and sweeter as time goes on - after 11,000 miles all my gear changes are really pretty slick both going up and down the box - the gearbox on my LC is probably now sweeter and more precise and far less 'sloppy' and agricultural than either of my previous air-cooled 1200s - seems to me that these bikes take a while to break in :D I wonder how it will fare over the next 20,000 miles or so before I replace it for the next new model?

How predictable.......:D

There is a clutch and/or gearbox problem

BMW know it

We know it

However you clearly don't want to hear any talk of it and they say .....Love is blind

Certainly true in your case:blast

How many different ways does he need to say it?!

It's still crap and has a fundamental design fault :thumb

You really do need to grow up don't you? If you have nothing intelligent to say just keep you mouth shut, it really is the best way you know.

Verbally abusing others users.......................charming:rolleyes:

Mmmm, I wonder how much of that is down to the gearbox or to you learning (even subliminally) to make sweeter changes.

And that's how it should be, nothing exceptional at all so why post - unless of course you're trying to piss off the many people that have very real issues with their gearboxes?

That is an interesting question and I do not know the answer but either way it feels like a good gearbox - although to be honest mine was never bad and is a gazillion times better than an 1150 that I rode ages ago.

that's certainly what it looks like from here.

So reporting good news is a bad thing is it?
I am sure that there have been some genuine issues as there has been with every GS model since the first (the 1150 being one of the worst considering the numbers sold) but the vast majority of people around the World do not seem to have them - AND if you actually count the number of genuine problems reported on here how many are there really? Give me some figures as opposed to what sometimes appears to amount to nothing more than 'girly' hysteria amongst a bunch of old farts :D

We don't need another gearbox thread!
Some clearly have problems and some clearly can't shift gear.
I bought on the back of a test ride and the gearbox was great. Other people rode the same bike and thought the gearbox was horrendous...

Good news. Something works as it should. Marvelous .

Marvelous exactly.

Worth saying sometimes - when something goes wrong then the complainant tells loads of people, when people are happy with a product they tend not to shout about it - the result is that problems get grossly exaggerated and this is what has happened here.

The GSer site is not only a great place for the dissemination of useful information BUT it is also a great place for gossip, rumour and guesswork - not that different to the motorcycle press sometimes.

Remind me, then:D (seeing as you included it, for my benefit)

What we need is some numbers so that we can see the true picture.

How many genuinely faulty LC gearboxes have there been and how many LCs have been sold to date?

As Lord Kelvin once said - and I paraphrase using slightly less refined language then he did :D "one knows fuck all about something unless you actually measure it"

Christ all fecking mighty; I'm self aware enough to realise that I'm in a shit mood today and everything at work is currently turning to said shit but please Engineer give it a fecking rest (on both threads). It's not funny, it's not ironic, it's not insightful, it's not fecking anything you think it is................

.............it's just boring, attention seeking shite :aidan

Then don't read it and go and lie down in a dark room until you feel better :D

I think I may well do, thank you, however that takes nothing away from the comments in my original post...............

The posts don't have to be anything, they don't have to be funny, insightful , ironic or anything else, they are just posts, my thoughts and a counter to all whiners and whingers and old ladies that just seem to want to knock anything and everything that doesn't fit into their little worlds and on that basis are alone are more than justifiable.

So if you don't like it just bite your tongue and don't reply.

This whole problem is caused by engineers.

Firstly they did not engineer the clutch to do its job.

Secondly they always have the view that 2 plus 2 equals four, never less, never more. They can never understand that higher a price means higher expectations.

You will never find an engineer who understands the phrase 'mischief maker'.

You are contradicting yourself here......its just a post, an opinion........just like yours then?

Really? :nenau

Utter twaddle...........go on, provide some justification for that.......I bet yhou can't @blast
