Posted on here a couple of weeks back, after the final drive would not slide off as the manual said it would sorted that after a request for help on here, thanks guys more advice needed now so here we go.
The uj is stuck on the driveshaft, so continued on to take the swinging arm off, have since stripped the threads on the gearbox casing rh side (heat was applied to pivot studs) repair for this is in hand. But i cant get the drive shft to separate from gearbox output, any advice? Plus when i do achieve this how do i seperate the two parts of the shaft when the shaft is still in one piece inside the swinging arm? Any advice much appreciated, im only getting a few hours at the weekend to work on it hence it is a long winded process in getting things done all this just to replace the swinger bearings, nightmare.

drives shaft is off

Ok ive managed to get the shaft off the output, now how do i separate the two driveshaft parts when they are in the swingarm without damaging the rubber cush that is built into the driveshaft?

You'll be very lucky to seperate the shafts without any damage.

Once stuck they generally stay stuck. I've tried using a 30 ton press and no luck.

Heres a reply to another stuck shaft, the link shows how I managed to separate the driveshaft.....hope it helps .......

Had the same trouble couple of weeks ago, its likely your driveshaft center splines are seized, see here;

You'll get the final drive off and find it has come off with the F/D end U/J still attached to the shaft, its worth working on the shaft to release the seized splines and get things sliding again, the shaft needs a bit of movement in the splines or it rides over the sping clips at each end.

Thats all very well with an 1100 shaft, they can be removed from the swinging arm. A stuck together 1150 shaft can't. :D

Done for a malt

Thanks for the replies guys. I gave the swinger and shaft to a mate who works for CAT, he managed to separate the shaft with a bit of work and everything seems fine with it now. A nice bottle of Glenfiddich was given for the job a fair deal i think.

I had this on my 2003 1150 when it was only just out of warranty, I took the swing-arm to a local garage and asked them to use their oxy-acetylene torch to separeate them and then I just bought a new short-section. It wasn't corrosion that caused it, it had been pressed together in the factory like that. After I had fitted the new shaft (which slid nicely on the splines) the ride was much better.
I put the early demise of the UJ down what was effectively a solid drive-shaft.
