Headed out and over the Klausen yesterday - most of the passes are now open. The only one I saw shut was the Grimsal
Anyone down here in the next few weeks - and not expecting to get over the passes will have an unexpected treat
There are a lot of speed traps .....

:thumb curious on the speed traps.... I always go late August / September and have never come across any on the passes.... admittedly I try to avoid the weekends as well as I don't like sharing the roads with so many chromo sexual cruisers :ymca

Has anyone got local knowledge on what the 'radar' season is from the police perspective?

It's not only excess speed they do people for. I was riding from Lake Como to Landeck via St Moritz with some friends. They were on 1 litre sports bikes so got ahead of me after Zernez. They overtook some cars using the "turn left" middle lane. Little did they know that the Subaru was an unmarked police car which radioed ahead to the border post.

I came past to find them having a chat to Swiss plod at the border post. I pissed myself laughing on those last few km into Austria and onto Landeck. I was on my second beer before the finally turned up at the hotel. 2 of them got 600CHF fines.

This was the 1st week of September 2009.

Another of many reasons for giving Switzerland a miss:augie

I'm jealous - we were down there the last week in April travelling between Saas Fees Switz and Bavaria and all the passes were still closed so had to take the tunnel. Fantastic valleys and mountains - can only imagine what the passes were like.

Loads of bikes out in Bavaria on the German / Austrian border area - there was a route signed as the Route Tyrol (or similar) - not sure what this was (without stating the obvious!). Cracking touring area.
