I have removed the 2 wire plug sprayed and cleaned but my gear indicator still has a mind of its own and refuses to show me a nice green neutral light.
If anyone has changed their switch could they offer any advice ie
...will lowering the exhaust give me the room I need to remove the top bolt.

...does much of the switch go into casing as this could reduce play when removing it.:nenau

...if the above are positive I would estimate it would not take too long ?
Also has anyone had it done at dealers and how much did it cost.:eek:

Thanks

Steve

Ordered

taken deep breath and ordered the switch....£77. Will undertake repair in a day or so !!!!!!!!
Fingers crossed.

Just booked mine in to be done in a couple of weeks time.

Gear petentiometer or so I'm told - the dealer ordered one on the spot when I told hime the (same) symptoms. Off on a couple of long jaunts (Wapping's four dayer and my annual Le Mans trip in June) and I don't want to be stranded.

I'll post when I get it done.

Mine's been doing the same for a while now. The fact that I can get a temporary repair by spraying with WD 40 made me wonder whether corrosion on the connector is giving the wrong readings.

Does anyone know how the signal is sent? I know my old GSXR used specific resistances to define each gear, I'd assume that this is similar for many bikes.

Anyhow you'll have to keep us up to date with how easy the job is. I've not looked in detail yet, as its such a fiddly place to get to.

What bike? If 1200GS its not too bad, although you'll need an E8 torx, (external torx spanner), Halfords do em. Oil does not come out once its removed, there's a seal in the back of the box that takes care of this, however, if oil does come out...there's your problem:augie

From memory you dont remove the exhaust (1200GS)

nOT REALLY, THERE'S just ENOUGH ROOM to get it out.

About 1/2 hour.

Thanks

Its just a position sensor, V alters as gears change, 1v =1, 2v=2 etc...This is converted into an LED display by the Kombi

Values ?

After replacing does the bike need to be plugged in for the values to be set (hope this makes sense but its something I was told). OR should it work as normal.........:confused:

Thanks....again
