Hi all, I took the plunge and got an INNOVV k2 dash cam set up. I’ve fitted everything and routed all the cables and fastened everything in place ............. just need to find a switched live to connect to the yellow wire on the power supply
It’s got about 2 feet of cable to find one, where is best to go to?
Thanks

I'd like to know the answer to this also. I have something to connect...

What about the cable running to your rear light? It must run past the battery ?

If you have a multi-meter - get a sewing needle and lecky-tape it to the +ve probe. Use the needle to penetrate the insulation of the cable - to test.

Just wrap a turn or two of leckytape over the pinhole after, to be on the safe side against moisture.

The live to the power take off socket under the Seat is a safe one to go for. It’s what I used to trigger a relay. If you screw it up somehow it’s only the power socket rather than something a bit more crucial.

The power is limited to 5amp iirc so probably ok to run a dash cam from.

The rear brake light switch feed can be a useful place to supply low current accessories from, and the connector is frequently under a bike seat or sidepanel.

This rings a bell . Amps don't matter, it's purely a trigger, so no load taken from it.

The only catch with this one might be the delay given to the power socket at start up? I think it's only given power a few seconds after the motor is running?

I powered various things through a fuse box triggered by the relay off the socket’s power. I never noticed a delay on start up but there is about 30 seconds after switch off, ie it stays live.

two companies now making mega gadgets to power accessories - the brilliance of these is that they can be linked to turn on and off or do stuff via the bikes can bus - which you can customise via the USB port and your laptop

the hexcode one just got a mk2 and a few of the old ones going cheap, denal now copied (hexcode are the makers of the GS911 based in Somerset West South Africa)

It also cuts out if you stop the motor and restart. Annoying, if like my Keis heated jacket, the device needs to be manually reset before it wakes up again.

KTM bikes come with either one or on larger bikes two sets of electrical accessory feeds, one permanently live, the other switched by the ignition.

Makes fitting heated grips and socket for charging/heated jacket very simple.

So do many heated grips.

Do BMW's accessory sockets not remain powered for around 20 minutes after the ignition has been switched off?

Rear light feed to power a relay sounds a good idea.

Tbh the simplest thing would be to run it from the power take off under the steering head. You need to buy or make a cable with the right connector (about £10 from NNs). You get two wires - +ve and -ve with bare ends to add your own connectors. Long enough to reach into the clocks area but not much more. Plug and play almost. That connection is powered up with ignition and stays on for about 1mimute after switch off. It may drop out sometimes when cranking the engine too but if your battery is good it doesn’t.

Is this power take off only after 2008 or something like that? I've looked for it on my 06 bike and could not find it.

I had one on my 2006 GSA.

I will try to find it again...

I don’t know which years have it or if it only on GSAs. Mine (2011 GSA) is a black connector tightly cable tied under the bottom yoke. It is hard to spot as you can’t really get your head underneath properly to look up.

Are you referring to the satnav connector?

I was thinking the op was looking for something under the seat, roughly?

I suppose you could call it that, but all it is is a power take off. He did ask for something near the battery but I understood that to be either for simplicity wiring in a relay to power his camera, or to directly power it without a relay. The ‘sat nav’ connector should serve the purpose of directly powering his camera just fine.

Ahhh. That's it. It starts live after switch off. I couldn't remember precisely what it did (I don't use it much!)
