Looking fo a switched live on the hexhead.

noticed i have the Din socket under the seat

Ignition on it shows 12.5xv if i leave it for about 10 mins and go back its showing 0.6v

does that count as switched live, or should it be 0.0v ?

I assume you mean you switched the ignition off and waited 10 minutes?
I understand that it is can-bus controlled, an ECU somewhere will decide if and when to disconnect it. I know that if you connect a battery maintainer there, it needs to send a signal so that it is not disconnected after a while. The 0.6V is probably enough that the ECU can sense if something is connected. What it does with this information, who knows.
It's a bit too unreliable to use that socket for anything that could flatten the battery if the ECU decides to leave it on. Personally, what I would do is tap into something you know will be switched off when the ignition is off, like the lights, then use that to switch a relay connected via a fuse to the battery.

It shuts down after approx 10 minutes. It’s why you need the “special” BMW battery charger if using that socket, it basically tells the canbus system it’s charging the battery and not to shut down.

If there is room in the fusebox these are a quick and easily reversible option Piggyback fuse

Hi Neil , i'm not charging, i need to use a switched live for a camera system,

my understanding was if no power was being drawn, it would be 0.0

or is the 0.5v showing means its a monitored circuit , and will tell the sytem to switch to +12V if it sees a draw (which ill effectivly run the battery down )

I know you’re not charging, I was explaining that the socket doesn’t recognise any accessory plugged in after 10 minutes unless the item is BMW specific. You maybe able to find a “work around” somewhere on the internet

Abikething use an adapter off the GPS circuit for a switched live. Might be useful if you have the socket and don’t want to tap into your loom yourself.

Ah, that makes makes sense -

You can use the switched live on the diagnostic socket or the tail light feed.
I use the tail light feed to switch a small relay to control the cameras.

Previous comments about being "CAN-bus controlled " are incorrect. This is a popular misconception. It is controlled by the ZFE.
I did know but it could’ve led to more questions being asked and suggestions made and scenarios played out requiring ever more convoluted answers, so I took the simple option :D

I have a K3 camera installed on my 09. I put a small fuse box in the small tray under the seat and have a relay next to it which is activated by the seat din socket. Never timed it for it switching off but it's never caused me an issue. I also have heated gloves and some auxiliary lights connected to it.

Poor man's Ezcan lol. Healtech do a nice little box as well that senses voltage from the battery so switches on when it's running and off when not.

Good idea if you don’t want to chop wires, however my goodness that Denali lot are robbing buggers eh?

That's exactly what I did. It switches off after a few minutes, I've had my installation fitted for about 12 years, it runs a satnav, aux lights and fog lights and I have never had a problem. I would not fork out hundreds of pounds for an Ezcan when you can do what you described for about £10.
If any one wants to know more pm me.

On my old Hexhead I had a "Fuzeblock FZ1" unit with a switched live trigger from I think the yellow headlight wire IIRC.

I now use the Fuzeblock FZ1 on my Tmax for accessories as each fused output can be configured as permanent or switched depending on where to fit the fuses, its a great solution to accessories and saves a snakes wedding of wires but its expensive, I think Nippy charge about £80 for them.

While you're on these units, I have the old version of the PDM60. I think the new versions use Bluetooth rather than a cable to make software adjustments. The unit itself is bomb proof.

But as per all the others, it's not cheap...

Good afternoon,

A bit on the late side but you should have a switched live that turns on when you turn the key and powers off 1 minute after turning off the key. It's a 3 pin socket hidden under the oil radiator (on a 2010 GSA) or close to the front shock top nut.

I used this plug https://pt.aliexpress.com/item/1005...t_main.80.42a9caa4TGZsG4&gatewayAdapt=glo2bra and it's working ok.

I followed up the instructions on this site: https://motorcycleinfo.co.uk/gps-satnav-power-connection-2-indexdec2/

Hope it helps.

I have a little plug with a big pointy cover on it on my 2010 GSA twin cam, it’s located on the front left of the bike zip ties to a bracket under the beak.

I can’t seem to get any power signal from it which is probably my stupidity, but could that be the sat nav power take off?

If the "big pointy cover" looks like this, its the air temperature sensor..

The sat-nav power feed has a small flat-ended cover and should be under the headlamp.
