synth gearbox oil - magic!

I've asked Wollastons what they put in my gearbox. It was Shell Helix 15/40

NO IT WASN'T. WHOOPS! Sorry, that's what they put in the engine. They claim not to know the name of the stuff in the gearbox. Apologies once again.

I thought syn was put in at the factory on the later models. Whatever. I do know that when I put in my '98 R1100RT 5 speed, it definitely improved the shifting. I don't recall a difference on my '01GS

well - its all very well, but i CANNOT find this f*cking stuff anywhere!! and while i'm moaning, why do BM decide to make the the gearbox capacity 800ml and the FD 250ml - meaning you have to buy 2litres instead of rounding it off nicely to 1

Just been on the fully Synthetic gearbox oil hunt myself – spent the entire afternoon visiting all the local car and bike shops with no luck whatsoever. This stuff is impossible to find. The best I’ve found is fully synthetic 80W single grade oil (as opposed to 75\90W multigrade) – will this do the trick?

TIA

Try DEMON TWEEKS. I bought two litres of Mobil 1 fully synthetic from them and put it in yesterday ( Shaft and gearbox ). The gears are noticably smoother. It's got 57k on the clock and was last changed at 52k.

DrAlf try a motor factor. Not the likes of Halfords - the places where the trade go. There are at least two near me that sell Comma products inc their Synth.

vw dealers sell own brand "quantum hypoid synta" 75/90w synthetic. it's marvelous stuff. about 7 quid a litre.
