Syphon Sucker System 99

Found an interesting thread on the ADVride site.

A guy called John Jenson from Seattle sells a kit that goes in your tank (1100 and 1150) and syphons the fuel from the left side of the tank to the right side so that the fuel pump can pick up all of the fuel rather than you running out and having to tilt the bike over to get the fuel left to right.

Interesting thread and I have e-mailled John (who replied only 1 hr 35 mins later!) with the fitting instructions and price etc.

20 US$ with postage & package another 5 US$. Don't know what tax is or has to be added but seems good value for peace of mind and money and an addition 2 litres or so fuel available without risking the bike toppling over.

JJ only can accept payment in US$ so that would have to be sorted out if you want one.

Another interesting tip from the site was that a replacement fuel pump from a VW can replace the OE at 10% of the price. Bosch made and supposedly the same thing?? I can't refer the model and anyone interested would have to find the thread.

Hi,
It is one cool site and regularly has useful info.
On the subject of fuel I noticed that our trans-atlantic cousins seem to get a lot less out of a tank than we do over here.
I tend to still use the trip meter, zeroing it at each fill used with the fuel gauge, I am usually only left with a couple of litres in the tank anyway.

Did you check out the handlebar muffs.

Got One

Got one and fitted it, its a very clever three way siphon, simple but effective, it continuously equalises the fuel level in both lobes and allows you to use more of the available fuel.

The manual says you can use 21 ltr, I have carried a 5 ltr can in the pannier and run with the yella light on & no bars for 40 miles, my yella light comes on at NO bars showing then I chickened out when I got to my home petrol station and got 22.6 ltrs in to the level of the neck where you would normally call full, it was still running and the fuel pump had not shrieked as it would if it could not find fuel, the fuel level in the tube was still full so it had not stopped siphoning, to me that works. I had 250 miles on the trip.

I think it was $25.00 to my door, I have a US bank acct so just sent him a cheque, you could send him a signed AMEX travellers cheque in US Dollars.

There won't be any tax implications if the item you are buying costs less than £18. As for US gas mileage/fuel consumption, the US gallon is equal to 3.8 litres, whereas the UK gallon is equal to 4.54 litres, so that would account for the different MPG the guys across the pond get.

On MPG you are spot on Bob.
But in the thread in question the overall milage was considerably down on what one would expect. Well sub 200 miles to redline.
