Just wondered if some of the IT crowd in here could clarify something for me?

At work I am using a networked system with XP.
An essential bit of software went bang on monday and I could log into it using colleagues PC or the remote access app, just my bloody desktop that wouldn't run.

So four days, three technicians, endless webchats, phone calls, removing software, reinstalling I am instructed to run system restore and it works.

So the question is should system restore be the first or last port of call?

It wouldn't normally be my first option, I'd be looking for the reason the problem occurred first, with a view to preventing it recurring. System restore is a bit of a blunt instrument for fault diagnosis.

Thanks Shugie, I think you should have 90 Bisodol for that answer:thumb2

It's very difficult to type whilst wearing Joy Division Oven gloves :beerjug:

Same goes from me, better to find out what went wrong. That said we dont do a lot of diagnosing now at work. We have an image for all the machines which takes about 40 mins to put on so if it looks like trouble shooting is going to take much longer then we just re image the machine and be done with it. Time is money at work.
