I want to buy a tailpack. Any recommendations? My preferences in no particular order:

Secure when attached to the bike
Waterproof
decent capacity
Expandable
Easy carrying when I take it from the bike to the hotel

Thanks

Rolf,

Do you want one that goes on the rear seat or on a rear carrier?

The Touratech ones look the part, but don't seem to be very waterproof, both the ones I've got leak. And they take a while to remove and put on.

I've tried the Touratech ones, good but not exactly very easy to take off (good for security but fiddly) and don't expand much.

Another GSer gave me a KRS tailbag that I 'converted' to a seat bag. Did about 3,000 miles with it and it worked fine, just not enough capacity for what I need.

I've been looking at the Oxford versions but have (literally in the past hour) ordered a Givi.

They do two that I can find, one is a roll-bag and one a more traditional square jobbie.

Should give a view of the two. (Ed. Sorry, should have said to use the search for Givi.)

Mike.

Best one I've used, comes from your part of the world.........

It's a Wolfman one from Colorado...USA

Good size and comes with a rain cover

Plenty of pockets and decent main compartment

Fleece covered bottom to protect seat or rack (plus non slip)

4 Adjustable straps (which are adjusted internally) that come with detachable plastic hooks or loops (so can be used on a multitude of bikes, from trailies to sportsbikes)

Serious bit of kit and worth every penny

30 seconds to remove

No.2 choice is Ventura kit

Again seriously good kit..........but you have to use their rail and rack system

That's my recommendations..........JN

Probably not much use to you but I bought Oxfords 1st Time tail pack for £15 in Hein Gericke.

Straps & bungies so difficult to remove (but same goes for toerags :D ) but solid on bike.

42 litres, rain cover, handy side pocket & shoulder strap all included.

Who said bike gear was expensive !! ;) (I know, the rest of its costing me a fortune but hey, its good clean fun. :beerjug:

I use an Oxford one top bit of kit very secure. Here it is mounted on the other bike. Plenty of space for a four day jaunt (not camping!!):D

I use bubble wrap under the bungy hooks to stop them taking lumps out of the bodywork!

Cargo all the way

I have a Cargo tail pack.. showerproof inheritantly and comes with a water proof cover. Mine is the older version but new one is better.

Bungies are very strong.. carries well on the shoulder strap.

Also 10year garentee.. well worth the cash. I rate it far better than oxfords stuff..

I just leant it to a friend to take on his Hiyabusa with us to scotland this last weekend.

I have the Wunderlich X-bag. Very good bit of kit. Expands to 25ltrs from 15. Very easy to fit onto the rear seat and very secure. Note that there are different mounts depending on whether you want to mount the bag on the seat or the base. I've got mine on the rear seat.

Has some removable ruck sack straps. I keep 1 on it so that i can carry the bag over my shoulder when i leave the bike.

There's a seperate waterproof cover or you can wrap the contents into a dustbin liner.

I purchased mine on the internet through the SPC/Wunderlich website (note that for some reason the 11XXGS accesories are accessed via the 11XXRT link. Strange but completely true.)

rear seat bag

Up in your area is RKA http://www.rka-luggage.com/pages/10rearst/rearst.html I have one of their tankbags which I am satisfied with. I opted for a Touratech rack bag but the RKA seat bags looked appealing. They list 'waterproof' as an attribute, but also offer a rain cover so caveat emptor. I never use the raincover on my tankbag and have never felt sorry.
