Thought this might interest you guys. Battery died on me today. Not a problem just call BMW recovery and one hour later I'm away with a new battery installed (the original lasted a year and was put on charge every night by the way). Whilst he was swapping over the batteries we got talking all things BMW and got round as you do to the dreaded EWS problem. He told me that the recovery guys have been told not to pick up any dead bikes with EWS issues now but to bodge the EWS and make the rider go to the dealer under there own steam. Had this confirmed from a mate of mine whos 2007 GSA had its second EWS fault this weekend (first one was when the bike was a week old and he'd just got off the chunnel on the french side). He told me that they strapped on a new EWS and told him to make his way to either williams manchester or southport superbikes and get the job sorted properly. Nil points BMW for customer service :(

Apparently they cannot fix at the roadside,it involves a front end strip off as I understand so it is not really a bodge but a get you going.Did he also tell you that should they start one's machine with the piggyback EWS then you should only switch off with the kill switch and not the key?Apparently it will restart then at a petrol stops etc.Would not wanna leave it overnight like that tho!

Erm....what do you mean nil point on customer service :nenau

Sounds pretty good to me...it means that BMW have issued lots of spares, and it means that the rider is going under their own steam, can complete their journey without hassle or delay and get it fixed at their own dealer at their leisure

Given the choice of having a good and sensible 'bodge' (I'd call it a workaround rather than bodge but there we go) as opposed to having to stop going where I was going and having to go to a dealers right then, I know which I'd prefer :)

I'm sure most people would be happy with that, as long as the bike's working you don't have to stop your ride / trip and can book in the bike when its conveniant for you.

Sounds more like BMW trying to avoid the general/biking public seeing yet another BMW on the back of a recovery truck.;)

So a slow trip to the dealer on the back of the recovery truck, or you continue on your trip. Why would you want to go to the dealer if you can keep on going?

Sorry??? Have I got this upside down?

Rather sounds like the chap has been told to go straight back to the UK and then up north to get the bike sorted instead of carrying on with his European holiday.:nenau

... or, that he was told "it'll be fine for a week or two - enjoy your European holiday and get it fixed properly when you get home..." :nenau

;)

I shouldn't be suprised ............. but there is a lot of ill-informed rubbish and gossip written on here. :rob
