I am 6'4" and although the 1200GS is a perfect bike I am looking for higher and more comfortable seat.... any ideas? I ride the bike to work every day - Cambridge to London so I am in the sadle around 90 mins each way and a slightly higher and more comfortable seat woul dmake a dream bike even dreamier.

:-)

Out of interest, where do you experience the discomfort?

I'm 6ft 3" with a 34" inside leg, test rode the Adventurer for about four hours last week and it's the most comfortable bike I have ever ridden and am about to buy one if it compares favourably to the standard GS... I have some hip and knee problems that rule out a lot of smaller bikes as the pain become intolerable so am being nosy so I don't make another (painfull) mistake!

Me arse.... are to be technical the base of ones spine.... Leg, knee and general position is great but I get a dull ache in th ebase of my spine.... not much padding down there being a skinny git.

:)

Agree

I am 6' 2" but of more importance on the bike is my 36" inside leg measurement. Changed from 05 GS to 09 GSA last year and after 3500 miles over the last couple of weeks I can definitely say the GSA seat is not as good as the old one. Will be shopping for Sergeant/Touratech over the winter.

Just got back from a day testing the GS and GSA back to back...(was supposed to be testing the K13R & S as well the standard GS but the R had problems!).. I found the ergonomics of the GSA far better than the GS including stet comfort! Rode the GS first and love it! Could believe the difference from the test ride on the GSA hence why I graded it this afternoon instead of the K13S.. And I loved that as well, could feel it wasn't so nimble, but felt panted and stable in the corners and so damn comfortable!

Try having the rider seat on the high setting at the front and low setting at the back, works for me, no pains or aches, might save you a few quid in buying another seat:thumb

OK not a 1200 rider.
But I'm a tall fat 'broke' geyser 6'4" , and a little unlike your skinny butt, but (sic) experienced similar problems to you on my 1150, fitted with std seat.
Got a second hand corbin off a kind chap here, and it has absolutely TRANSFORMED the long distance experience. With the wider seat I no longer have it on the highest setting (33" inside leg) as it's too high for me now, but the riding position is now brilliant and no sore butt/ lower back on longer trips.
See if you can borrow one from a tosser local to you, and see if things improve......to me.........well worth the expense.:beerjug:

Talk to Tony Archer in Huddersfield. I did, 6'4 and 17st, and he suggested and carried out a refurb. Choose the colour, piping etc and jobs a good'un.:thumb
Cost me about £80.

Now that is a definite "find" I was thinking of brushing up my Italian for a seat.....Not far from Leeds so he's stored in my favourites!

Thanks

Thanks for the tips.... I will try the seat in high at front and low in rear and see if that helps otherwise it is off to see Tony Archer :)

I'm 6'6" and need all the legroom I can get. As well as a modified seat consider lowered footpegs. I made my own out of bits in the spares box rather than spend many beer tokens and they help no end.

Same height, same challenge. Have plumped for a new Sargent seat, late Christmas present to myself. Will let you know how it works out.

If all you need is a higher seat, it might be worth looking at the mountings. Vern of this parish sells spacers to fit under the standard mounts, 6mm thick from memory, and I use 4 on the front seat mount and 3 on the rear, which, along with a Wunderlich peg lowering kit has worked a treat for 6'6'' me on my 1150GSA. Not sure if the 1200 uses the same mounting brackets though. Worth a thought.........

6'4" w/ 36" inseam... I picked up a 2nd saddle off ebay and re-upholstered.
Removed the foam and added new, slightly wider and 24mm" taller foam, then shaped it.
Fits me perfect, but too tall for anyone else!

I'm able to do my own upholstery work, but any good upholster can do the modifications fairly inexpensive.
