Most comfortable seat?

Hi guys.

Whats considered a more comfortable seat for my 2005 gs

The standard one is torture,

Ive bought a touratech one and its better but still not great.

Next step sargent?

Or is it the air pad thing?

Any others i should be looking at?
 
Do what I did. Go to a good local upholsterer and get him to make one to your expect specifications. I told him everything i didn't like about the standard seat. I bought an old ripped GS seat and got a local guy to pad it out a lot more and it's brilliant. Cost was£80 all in. There are always a few damaged seats coming up for sale on eBay or even hear occasionally. He even managed to get the new colour to match the original seat. Don't waste your money on buying oh her seats to see it they work.
 
I have a Sargent on my 2013 adventure and an Corbin on my '92 r100r

They are both great.

If you are ever passing Heathrow you are welcome to take my Sargent out for a spin, try it for a weekend, or longer, if that helps :-)
 
I got a Sargent very good takes a few rides to get used to it,it's firm & compfy you won't loose money buy s/h,have read that corbin are good or try an air pad Iv just brought one to trial I have an XT which is a pain narrow seat.
 
1+ for Sargent

But if you don't want to spend that sort of money you have Tony Archer on your doorstep, best seat man in the north for decades.
 
Just done 2,500 miles in Europe with her indoors both of us using airhawks they are great even no complaints of her well worth the money
 
What you need is a Sargent seat with an Airhawk on top and sheepskin to finish it off :D
 
Kahedo comfort seat. Most comfie bike seat I'd ever had, tried 2 Sargeant's before and sold them on. It allows you to move around without holding you like a "spoon" ala Sargeant. Was that good that I ordered one for my new LC before the bike had landed :)

Sergeant worked for me, can ride all day on it. I just bought rear seat cover for the pillion to match the front,
I don't do passengers. :rob
 
If you really want comfort you need an Airhawk

I rode 28 1/2 hours straight on an HP2 with one followed a few days later by 3 X 10 hour plus days, they just work Full Stop
 
I found the Sargent dug into my thigh and being so wide made the already tall stretch to the floor even worse. I had similar issue with a Corbin on my old Yamaha Diversion 900. The standard seat was average at best. The Corbin was as hard as nails but certainly better shaped. The snag was the seat edge digging into my leg and the now long reach to the floor. Fortunately, I bought it used and sold it for what it cost me.

If you have long legs and like to ride sitting low down then the Sargent does fine. If you like a more "normal" riding position, the Sargent probably won't do the job.

TBH I'm a fan of the Kahedo. The other week I did 200 miles in 3.5 hours and could have ridden non stop except for needing a wee. No way was that possible on a standard Adventure or GS seat. Maybe the OP needs some riding time to get used to the Kahedo's ways.
 
I have a damaged coccyx and can tell you from personal experience that you shouldn't buy a Sargent seat if you have coccyx problems because the lip at the back will exacerbate them (a fact Sargent themselves will confirm if you ask them which I thought was very honest of them). I had the OEM seat modified by a local seat builder but it didn't help. I bought a Kahedo but that didn't work for me so then I used an Airhawk for a while. I replaced the v2 Airhawk I had with an 'R' version which fitted the seat much better and was more comfortable - that's what I used during the Iron Butt Rally.

On our way back down the Californian coast I called into Rick Mayer Cycle who basically threw away all but the bases of both seats and rebuilt them from scratch. They're absolutely excellent, the best seats we've ever had. I've used several UK-based seat-modification people over the years but when we got our Ténéré I sent the seats to Rick to rebuild and they too are much more comfortable. It's not a cheap process but worth every penny IMO.

Maybe the OP needs some riding time to get used to the Kahedo's ways.

Russell Day Long Seat

I don't know what's available over in the UK but in the US we have several enterprising and creative folks who can help you. Myers builds a good custom seat but is currently divorcing and moving his business and is very backed up.(according to the forums). Russell day long in Cal. USA builds the most amazing custom seat out there. They accept your seat, uncover it, attach wings, pad and recover as per your requirements ie. height, weight, inseam, reach, legs up and legs down. Then they charge your card and send the seat back to you. I'm on my third seat (third beemer). They even ask for your input as per special requirements. Mine happened to be less padding directly below the prostate area. Big 'C' survivor. And all of this for around 400us$. They truly are comfortable day longs.

Your friend's right. Padded cycling shorts will help.

I use those and a low Sargeant seat and could do 10 hours day on my RT no problem.
I'm hoping for similar results on my 1st big trip on the GSA in a few weeks time.
 
Padded shorts might not be ideal with a low pan seat - pads in wrong areas.

The low Sargent (or low low Kahedo for that matter) gives a Harley cruiser style riding position with bent legs. Fine if you like that sort of thing but for me its just too low. I end up with cold hands (bars too high), sore back from road impact (sitting too upright) and sore base of spine (leaning back too much). Knees also suffer from being too bent - maybe why low seat users like the highway pegs.

The standard Kahedo seat set on high is the most comfortable for back and knees. Three hours non stop at speed is fine (if I dont need the loo). It is a compromise at low speed due to leg/floor reach. Seat set high, I also get more buffeting so also have to tilt the screen more upright. In the end I have the screen leaning back and keep the seat on low setting.
