Tan Hill

In case I didn't make myself clear: I love the place and if you get the idea of giving back what you get you'll have a great time.
It's not Moto Services. It's not a Harvester.
It happens to be a pub where a farmer and his family live.

:friday

That doesn't excuse serving a burger for £9 which is cremated on the outside, raw in the middle and served with chips and a bun only - no cheese, bacon, salad, gherkins etc. This was the second poor lunch I've had there and the last.

I too love good locally run pubs serving home made food, but the Tan Hill isn't one of them. Try the Horse Shoe Hotel in Egton Bridge, Old Hall in Treshfield, Hambleton Inn above Sutton Bank, Wuthering Heights in Stanbury etc. - there's plenty of choice if you want excellent food :thumb2

Off up there on Saturday for a bit of a do - Spirit Levellers & Ash Mandrake

Will be glad not to see any of you moaning twats there :P
You can all bugger off to your "gastropubs" :toungincheek

I agree with Mr K & TinyTim :D
All like-minded folk welcome - £8 OTG includes camping and sheep

my girlfriend and i have toyed with the idea of getting married ,and guess what they do do weddings at the tan hill ,and this place was high on my list of venues,as i thought it wouldnt be to expensive (we both been wed before you know how it is) .
i think maybe i have just been talked out this place .
some how i dont think the girlfriend would be to happy with a sheep having a piss and a shite on the floor next to her being to her liking .

Have a look at the Grinton Lodge Youth Hostel, down the Dale into Swaledale. It gets good reviews.

Congratulations! Tan Hill would be OK but it depends on your expectations. Windy location. Prone to bad weather. I've seen sheep in the porch but not in the pub, however, they are quite friendly. Best Wishes for the future :)

Personally I find that it is very quirky, but that's part of the experience and I like it. A few years ago I was instructing on a RAF mountain rescue drivers course (back in the days when they still had landies). When we finally got through the snow to reach it they where very surprised that anyone got had there. We got free lunches out of them, chips and sarnies with salad. Very good, especially as it was free.

Great place!! love going up that way forra ride and stopping off for a quick drink, cant comment on the grub as never eaten there, bag of crisps doesn't count does it!?, will camp up there one day and have a good nights sesh in the bar, always been there a bit early in day for us to stop and camp up before, £2 a night for almost wild camping!. Elle, thanks for the link to Takoda camping, its a new one to me and will be a welcome change to the noisy Brothers water site we often camp at.
