Has anybody got experience of a tank bag on their GS? Not sure if a bag that attaches to a tank pad or tank ring is better.

Do the bags on the ring fittings wobble and rattle about?

The SW Motech Bags Connection tank bags are more secure than the strap-on BMW or Famsa bags in my experience. They also make refuelling much easier.

The only advantage the BMW bags have is that they're waterproof.

Forgot to ask about clearance for bars and seeing gauges, (5'10" rider). Ta

I have the BMW bag on mt ADV LC and its pretty good

Easy to fit and easy to re fuel with no wobbling and good vis of the clocks and enough clearance of the bars

I've used a Touratech one for about 12,000 miles on my 2013 model. Sometimes it's been stuffed to the brim with various "essentials" and it's never budged an inch. In fact I don't really even notice it's there.

When you want to remove it, undo two clips at the front and Velcro at the back and off it cones and can be turned into a rucksack. It's totally waterproof too. :thumb

The downside is it's not cheap  http://shop.touratech.co.uk/tank-ba...rom-2013-bmw-r1200gs-adventure-from-2014.html

I've not, as yet, fitted a tank bag to my bike but my son did fit my old Hein Gericke Turag bag to his 2014 GS for a tour around Germany, Switzerland and France earlier this year. The HG Tuareg bag is very similar in design and construction to the Famsa; so much so that I suspect they're made in the same factory. We used the same approach to fitting the bag as I had on 4 previous 1200's, i.e. cutting a protective piece out of wonderweb and placing that below the tank pad and straps and placing a small wonderweb mat over the top of the filler cap on the tank pad and under the bag. The resulting combination was rock solid and worked very well. He's 6 foot tall but the setup would have worked equally well for me at 5' 9".

Thanks for the link. Just followed it and it says it comes with a rain cover. Are you saying its waterproof with the cover or that you have found it waterproof without the cover?

I think the rain cover is optional (might be wrong on that!) - I don't think mine came with one but I'm certain I've never used a cover on it!

It says it's water resistant with a waterproof coating on the inside. My personal experience is I've ridden through some torrential rain and nothing had ever got wet inside, which makes it waterproof for me :thumb

I've got a new givi quick lock on gsa, looks good holds enough stuff 20L comes with rain cover and has a cool little hole in the front to run a charge lead through, I've fitted cup holders to it too :-) all good

Sw motech daypack II.

Works brilliantly on the GS. I now have the powered version, which charges everything whilst on the go.

I did spray it with Nikwax waterproofer, and the bag has stayed dry through some torrential rain in the Pyrenees earlier this year.

Touratech fits well, is not waterproof, but you can spend more for a waterproof cover.

Givi tank lock bag comes with a cover but mine would not stay attached to the tank ring.

I've previously had BMW bags which have fitted well, not fallen off or slipped out of place and have always been waterproof....guess what I'm getting next.

Used Baglux on all my bikes so that's over 100,000 miles and no probs other than bags no waterproof - need to use fitted cover. Used their tank harness and Alpha tank back on my previous 2 GSA's - job done. Cannot recommend BMW one as very expensive for what it is and quality poor as the transparent plastic top split just out of warranty not to mention small carrying capacity.

I have the standard BMW LC bag works well seems waterproof and holds plenty

Thanks for the replies so far.
The SW Motech seems to have good comments all round. Touratech seems good as well but possibly needs the rain cover. BMW getting mixed reviews although I would be somewhat miffed if the paint was rubbed. Maybe the "wonder web" idea mention would cure that. I briefly looked at bagster but couldn't see the tank cover for the LC listed; is it a good fit? Photo maybe?

lol... I fitted a set to the back of my fasma kit I had on my 1150 gsa and believe or not came in bloody handy got them off a comedy beer belt the kids bought me years ago :-) I'll try and post a pic or send me your email via psm and ill send you one as i still can't sus how to post pics on here :-)

I bought the large BMW tankbag for my 13 GS. So far it has really dissappinted from a quality POV. The fabric on the bottom is all frayed and balled up, one of the font clips broke and a zipper handle broke. BMW warranty is non-existent on this bag. I originally had SW Motech on my previous bike, I wish I had stayed with that. I also purchased a small 8L Givi and a 20L Givi. I quite like the smaller Givi but the plastic tank ring worries me.

Do NOT buy the BMW tankbag, you will be dissappinted.
