I need a tank bag:

I think I have two options, either the Famsa, or TT. Both priced at just beneath £100.

My considerations are:

I dont want anything too big. I have panniers for luggage. Just want my camera, documents and other small junk etc..

But I do want something that is very easily removable. I don't want to leave my camera and passport on the bike whilst I'm in the cafe. Nor do I want to be the last one into the cafe whilst I try and get it off the tank.

Need something that will hold a decent sized map.

Has anyone any experience of either of the above bags??

I've checked out the search facility, and through that got the above options, just need someone to make my mind up for me!!!

Mate, I used to have the Famsa, which i have to say was a great bag except for the size of the map holder i thought was too small and you have to have a degree in origami to get a map in it, and i found it a pain when full to have to unzip it from the base to fill up. It was a bit tricky (ok, i'm thick) to put back on again. So now i'm going to get the TT one
Hope this is of some use.

do you have a baglux cover? try the city t.b about 8lt,s or i have a h/g magnetic at 12lts that expands as new but no rain cover?? used it on the adv now have a tank cover brill

I have the smallest of the Famsa bags (on an R1100s) and think it is good - you only have to unzip part of it to swing it out the way when refuelling.

I also have a baglux, which although appears big enough for a laptop - once you bend it around the tank - isn't!

I see lots of GS owners with Touratech bags, and they seem pleased with them.

Famsa is quite expensive unless you avail yourself of the ability to have two bags, using the one base.

I'm not a fan of tank bags but, like you, wanted something smallish for odds and sods. I bought an Oxford Sports Pack (magnetic one) which did the biz, although maybe still a bit too big for my liking. Got last year's model for 40 quid in HG. It comes with QD straps so's you can take it into the petrol station, cafe, ferry etc. Also has a strap to convert to a rucksack

I have the "Wunderlich" expanding tank bag. The map holder will take A4 sized sheets, and is reversable and removable. The bag attaches with vecro straps near the seat, and clips near the headstock, simple to un-clip for refuelling. Used it in the collapsed state for spare visor, small camera, paperwork, toiletries, mobile and tic-tacs on a week away, then expanded it and got 400 cigs in it on the way home! :thumb

Chris,

I like the idea of the TT 'Day Trip' bag similar to the one you have. Without actually seeing it, I have a proble imagining its size.
My main consideration is, will it take an SLR size camera? Other than that I really only need to put in passport, tickets etc..

Paul.

I have just put a TT tank bag in the for sale section, addvert includes a picture. bag is easy to get on with and does not mark the tank.

I have just fitted the SW Motech 'engage' bag to my GS - if I can work out how to add pictures to this I'll send you some. In the meanwhile - have a look at their website or nippy norman's. It's only about '8 litres' (whatever that means) but there is plenty of room for passport/tickets/money etc... and the bag doesn't actually sit on the tank at all - it attaches to a ring that you fit around the tank filler... (slightly disappointing is that this ring is made of plastic - on the pictures it looks like smart aluminium) and it remains a few cms proud of the paintwork. Removed in seconds. I'm very pleased with it so far...

Picture of TT one day bag fitted to my 1200gsa. Not much room inside as the bag is shaped around the top of the tank. Enough room for a camera and bits and bobs.

TT Day Bag it is for me!!!
Ordered today by 'phone.

Worth mentioning that the chap at TT was extremely helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. I appreciate that TT get a deal of negative press, but providing they deliver within a reasonable time I'll be a very happy GSER.

Paul.
