Tank Bars

I've ordered a set from Nippy, so we'll see what they look like in real life.

Nice one, mate. Post some pics when they're fitted, if you wouldn't mind, old chap. I can't make my mind up whether I like 'em or not and the pics posted don't show the whole bike.

Went and ordered a set today from the local German dealer, SW Motech have changed the design to follow the lines of the bike, the pictures on there website are wrong (but I can't tell the difference)
Heres what they'll look like (pictures were recieved from Motech today!)

I can't see that they would give any added protection to that part of the tank its just cosmetic the handle bars and engine bars would hit the deck first waste of money on a Boxer twin ...

Of course the bars are largely cometic, I expect they only offer a small amount of protection, for instance, if the bike falls against something.

Waste of money? I like the look of them, so I don't regard it as a waste of my money

Have to agree with Devon although maybe offering minimum protection unless the bike goes right over if you like them why not? plus it's somewhere to mount extra lighting

any feed back on these? As I comute in to london every day I could see the bars helping protect the plastics form getting damaged if you get nurfed by a taxi, come close a few times whislt passing a stationary taxi, only to have them pull off without any warning. Plus I am looking for a light bar and these would fill the same role for around the same price (£109+£11 p&P on ebay)

Sorry as someone who rides a lot off road i have to disagree, depending on where/how you fall they definitely come in contact with the ground..........mine have the marks to prove it
I agree the bars and engine bars (and the boxes) all ground first but in ruts rocks and the like, mine have saved the plastic on more than one occasion...................... and yes, they are great to hang the TT lights on.
Only down side is you need to bend them out a little so you can get the panels off without removing tank bars, mine was one of the first H&B sets so may have been modded slightly now.

Uh... Unfortunately no - the H&B tank bars haven't been modified. Or certainly not the ones I fitted just after Xmas weren't. And maybe a bit more research on this and other websites would have told me that you can't get the bloody side panels off without a lot of fannying about (disconnecting lights, cutting off cable ties, loosening this and that). A complete pain in the arse and then some.
But... IMHO they look well smart and are the perfect hanger for my PIAA 510's so I'll live with the downside.
Would still be interested to know whether you can get the side panels off with the SWM ones though?

Must admit having an Adv with oem crashbars, if I had the cash kicking round I would probably swap them. Having had a set on the basic bike for two years, they saved counts scratches etc off road

I also like the bar that actually goes around the rocker cover when the oem depend on the rocker cover protectors. IMHO SW very tough bit of kit ,I would not like to put the oem bar though the same grief I did on my previous bike.

It wasnt released when I bought mine else I would have, but as I was putting 1200 miles a month on Mine it would have meant My `54 reg gs12 going over that magic 20 miles the dealership worry about so much and would have killed the part ex value on the bike.
Serves em right anyways they ended up having to sell My 18 k mile bike on in the trade as they couldnt sell it. Totaly mint bike just aledgedly high milage.
