Hi,
I just bought a 2003 r1150gs adventure on ebay recently, but since then have read conflicting reports about the size of the tank online (some say 21ltrs while others sat 31ltrs). Is anyone able to tell me which it is? I am planning a round the world trip so obviously i am hoping it will be the larger, but if it is not what are my options (sensibly priced?)?
(i haven't picked the bike up yet so i cannot just fill it up and see!).

On the bike front, it has done 20k, FBMWSH, has touratech panniers and looks pretty good condition. Was £6500 fair? I have bought it now so tough luck to me if not!

eBayISAPI.dll

many thanks

Welcome Wesley. Your in the 1200 section BTW ;)
Standard tank is 21L although for some reason I can fit 22.5L in mine  Not sure what the adv tank size is :nenau but it was originally an option on the adv then became a standard fitment later on. Can someone tell me if I've got that correct! :D

big tank for GSA is 30L. it was originally an option, but became standard later i believe. other wise it will be 21L as per GS.

Thanks for your help guys.

Anyone out there know when it became a standard fitting? The guy i got the bike from said it is the one that came with the bike!

Thanks again,

Wes

I had an 03 1150 GS-A (brilliant bike) with a 30 litre tank as standard. It`s fairly obvious because it`s so fecking big and hurts when you fill up.

Best thing to do is nip down the garage when empty and fill her up.

Did 37,000 trouble free miles but my advice is get an airhawk seat (or similar) because you will suffer.

:D

the 30L tank is identifiable by the large "pannier" bits that are nearly as wide as the heads. 21L tank is much slimmer at that point.

Yep, the big tank was originally an option, the standard tank took less.

You will need some Tobinators on that.......:augie

They will add 10MPH or more to your cruising speed...

Unless you are freakishly tall you will need a lower seat on that bike. I'm 5' 11" and I need the lower seat, I also fitted standard 1150 shocks and main stand. I find the standard screen to be excellent...but then I'm not a giant ape like the Author of the post above :D

The standard shocks are made by Showa. These are appaling shocks for a bike costing as much as the GSA did new, they have a habit of failing, If you are going round the world you will need to fit something decent to the rear at least. Ohlins are the usual items fitted but they seem to have a habit of blowing seals. The choice is yours though and all part of customising the bike to suit you.

It looks like a nice bike. At 20k it still won't be run in.

Don't go scaring the man Rob :)

My Adv came whith WP shocks as standard and they're pretty good ;)

you don't imagine that even if it says WP on the side, that they are anything like the retail units do you? :P

showa can make some pretty good units (moto gp, WSB etc.) they just don't seem to be that wonderful on at the OEM stuff

Correct.....if you look at R1150GS and R1150GSA from the rear end, you could say that the R1150GSA is more curvy and attractive with narrow waist and silicone implanted boobs!!! :rose
