My tank holder rubber is split. Doesn't affect operation if I roll it on the good side, is there a cheap source or do I have to get the OEM part, I can see that the rubber is likely too firm to just slide it along the wire and that bending and unbending the wire to just replace the rubber would likely result in a cracked wire and that this explains why I can't see the rubber part listed seperately anywhere?

Ok! I'm sure you know you can buy the whole assembly new but, like me, you like a challenge and hate to throw away stuff that can be repaired. I'd either superglue the split back together or if it's too perished I'd find some thick walled fuel line, cut it to length and then split it. Put it on the wire loop and superglue the split shut. If your fuel line is not thick enough then do as before but add another layer of thicker tube. Any help?

Keep BMW Klassic spare parts business in operation for us all.

Buy a new one :thumb

The rubber self amalgamating (sp?) tape for electrical wiring can be wrapped round the wire enough times to give you the correct
Thickness, but it wont roll when you fit it..... just a thought, but not tried it yet myself....

Cheers for suggestions, I think the fixes wil undo themselves fairly quick so will just buy the complete thing when I am next in the dealers.

I covered the bottom of my tank with self adhesive foil backed insulation, in an attempt to keep the noise down and the fuel a bit cooler, and also raised the rear a little the better clear the electrics, and ended up having to remove the rubber to get the holder over the frame.
Seems to have worked OK, and 10/60 oil seems to have helped quieten the old girl down a bit too -after 430,000 km she is a bit looser than when new-----------------.

You could use heatshrink over the split rubber

I have some in shed so might fill the crack/split with silicone and apply the head shrink on over that. It's almost a bit of a hobby at times, trying to keep something alive /in use when others might throw it out.
