Anyone experienced this problem before? Full tank of fuel on a 13 GSA and the range is displaying 250 miles! Tried resetting etc but still the same! Just had the 6000 service and BMW shop says the bike is not showing any faults and they would investigate further. Had a call back saying try resetting the range again, the circle continues! Previous GSA always displayed about 350ish miles when the tank was filled!

Any help advice would be greatly appreciated!

Though it displays 250 miles , how many miles will it actually average on that tank of fuel?

i am sure this has been on the forum before, I think on the service something resets and the computer has to re learn the bikes MPG, at the very least run a tank or two through before you give it to a mechanic, it may sort itself out

Thanks for all the replys folks! I'm averaging about 48/49 to the gallon, therefore should be doing roughly 350 to the tank! This is about right, but for some reason the Range seems to max out at about 250!! Strange there's such a difference from my previous bike:eek

Thanks trainman but it's been like this from new!!

So fas it may not show a drop for the first 100 miles , not really an issue, is it? It's nothing more than a quick ref guide, a not very accurate one at that!

Use the odometer for accuracy, as you already know your average.

Agree not a major issue, the fuel bars are all fine, maybe just have to take a man-up pill and get on with it!!

Are we talking about (1) computer estimated range which is never perfect (but might a growing fuel strip issue) or are we talking about (2) running the tank dry when there is still fuel on board?

(1) Is either mildly annoying or the fuel strip is failing. It can be zapped with e piezo gas lighter or replaced at great expence.
(2) Is a weak fuel pump that's not pulling fuel from the "dead" side of the tank.

It's a 13 so doesn't have a fuel strip. I guess the float could still go wrong but there is no mention of the guage being out.

My 1190 adventure shows 380 miles range after a fill, strange considering it has a 23 litre tank and does around 45 mpg but once the light comes on it's not too far out, I find it a mild amusement as I know it's bollocks :)

I would like to add that I'm not great with fuel - when I chopped my GSA (300+ miles range) for my 990 adventure (180 ish range) I ran out of fuel twice in one weekend - Blondie was not best pleased :D

Is it showing 250 miles immediately after being filled up mine does that ,2011 gsa and then after 10 or 15 miles the range increases up to 350. Gauge is accurate as when it says it has miles left and the light comes on if you fill it up
you get about 29 litres of fuel into the tank

The gauge would be useless if it gave real time fuel level. Fuel sloshes about in the tank. The level is sampled about 90 second intervals & it takes a few samples before the computer accepts the new fuel level.

The GSA tank holds more than it's advertised 34 litres. So filling at 29 suggests there is best part of 50miles riding still available.

Are you just saying your bike use to do 350 miles or more to the tank and now it only will do 250 ish.
If so you have to change the fuel pump and the siphon pump that's what I did works fine now.

fill the tank up record the mileage in other wise zero the trip , run 200 miles , fill up record the litres divide by 4.5487 that gives you the gallons then divide the the mileage by the gallons and that gives you the mpg then divide the capacity of the tank in litres 4.5487 that GIVES YOU GALLONS AND TIMES The by your mpg that GIVES YOU THE tank range and bollocks to the computer thats what it will do per tank . technology is not necessarily a step forward mate !!!!!!!!!

I was not on about the comp on the bike. I'm on about you trip but by the reply it must be missing a bit of this post. You no need to tell me the math on mpg and litre bit. IV been doing it be for you be for we had the litre bit. :bow
