Well I think the truth has arrived at last. Im told from an insider that the Journo who had a so called tank slapper was riding like an arsole. Now hear this its a Classic. He was riding cross country cruise control engaged stood up on the rest and get this one. (No Hands) Hit a Rut and guess what:blast And now some light has been shed on the fatal accident to one of the best motorcycle journalist about. Kevin Ash. He was hit by another rider. Im also told that there is a possible law suit by BMW with the Mag that the Journo works for about miss reporting of the tank slapper. Don't ya just love it. So all you riders that have a toilet roll, in your tank bag, just in case. Leave it at home. Just don't ride like an asshole:thumb

Are you saying that standing on the pegs, arms outstretched under cruise control (otherwise known as 'doing a Leonardo') is stupid and irresponsible behaviour???

I'm ready to bet there is at least one more proof than there were proofs it was a tank-slapper. Which actually means one.

I understood all of the words you just typed, but I haven't got the foggiest what you just said :nenau

That there was little to no proof of a tank slapper ever actually happening apart from one journo... Who may or may not have caused it himself...

....Said the bloke down the pub .

We already knew there was one account....I'm just interested in this counter-story came from :thumb

The bit about Kevin Ash doesn't ring true either....we already knew that the other rider 'hit him', but that could be anything from that he clipped him as KA fell off due to a serious tankslapper from an inherent design flaw, to the other rider pissing about too much and hitting KA hard enough to TAKE him off the bike.

Pub chatter 'from an informed source' means fuck all.......and when two bits of it come up conveniently to appear to 'close' an issue, I get suspicious.....

I call BS...nice try by the BMW forum misinformation mole though :thumb

When we hear the truth, from an official, hopefully independent source, who is willing to stick his hand up and say how it happened, then I'll stop being so cynical, maybe.

I'm not anti Toilet BTW, far from it.........I'm just very anti-bollox ;)

That's never going to happen:rob

Pretty sure the accepted version is that the second rider crashed due to not seeing KA in the dust till it was too late.

I also haven't heard anything that links KA's crash, or the second riders, being linked to a tank slapper.

You mean it WAS a tank slapper, then? What source do you take it from?

I was pretty sure that the news that KA being victim or a tank slapper had been suggested by «...the bloke down the pub» or were «Pub chatter 'from an informed source'...» Yet, how many people jumped on that as definite proof it was indeed a tank slapper?

I may have missed something but hasn't the other rider say something? Haven't the SA police made an investigation?

No, I don't mean it WAS definitely a tank slapper at all :nenau

I have no idea what caused it, but there has been no official comment that I've seen (and I have searched) nor any proper explanation......hopefully just down to S.A investigative rules and so on, but it's been a fair while now hasn't it :nenau

I sincerely hope it wasn't down to that......but I also really hope that some more information is forthcoming.

I can't believe that anyone still gives a shit what the journos reckon. Enough people have taken delivery, and thousands of miles have now been ridden, and not one report of a tank slapper, so maybe it's time to put this one to bed now?:rob

BIKE magazine has a big test on the GS this month and no matter how hard they tried, they could not induce a tankslapper. The only time they got it to miss behave slightly when they were running on a really rough washboard section with the cruise on at 60mph, Enduro setting on and hands off the bars and it's hardly surprising.

If you were to do that in normal situations you would deserve to be thrown of the fucking thing :augie

That's probably fair, but I do enjoy these 'legal queries with the bloke in the pub' type threads :D

Who was the twat took umbrage with servo ABS because BMW didn't reply to an email? He was always good for a laugh :D

Oo - what a surprise.

(And how much abuse did I get with my "Shame on you, Bike Magazine" comment ?

As posted earlier I have given up buying Bike Magazine and Mcn and spent the money on a subscription to Motorcycle Action Group instead.
You only have to read the Bike buyers guides to see how much they talk out of their a-holes.

Anyway some good news - Vines have sold my GS Adventure which makes my VW a lot easier and I have placed a deposit on a white, spoked, Touring Edition which will come in the Autumn as (and if) my savings recover. Dec 2nd would be nice as its my birthday (63rd, actually :bounce1)

In the meantime enjoy your LCs everyone, I'm as jealous as hell !

But.... just one thing... If I were 63 I wouldnt be prepared to wait till Autumn, I'd kill for one next week. After all, who knows whats in store for us....:roll
