Tank Slapper my ARSE

Spot on - this isn't a bike for the slow or faint hearted. It's far too powerful a bike for owners of oilheads to consider.

Beware! Stay away!

You're right there....had a long go on one.....way to fast for me, I cried when I got off....and as for riding off the centre stand....well I can only dream of that. I've also noticed a downy fluff appearing on my upper lip and hair starting to grow around my balls...what's that all about!

Now let me understand this, The Sunday Times, a Murdoch paper , these are the people that Phone tapped, lied and don't bother with the truth are the source of your information ?? I'll bet the UK cricket team took there training manual from this rag.

Not sure, shouldn't happen to a girl.

Shhhhh..... You know that and I know that. But in the press and in the oil head forums it's building a fearsome reputation as an instant dealer of death. Just like my old Suzuki TL1000S.

I love the idea that other riders think I'm playing Russian Roulette every time I climb the pegs to mount my bike at Box Hill.

So even with the 3 to 4 reported tank slippers... the guy was riding off-road, out of sight of anybody, and likely pushing on a bit. To suggest it was a tank slapper that caused it, which in turn was caused by bad bike geometry/suspension/whatever, is tenuous at best. There are a dozen more likely reasons he crashed - riding beyond his ability, distracted, hit a rut/pothole/, found a spot of extra deep/soft gravel - the list goes on.

I can't see any report that is going to put Mrs KA at ease - no doubt she needs some form of closure, and I hope it's just that rather than looking for some form of compensation...

Agree with the above that currently there is no suggestion that Kevin Ash dies as a result of a malfunction. Accidents happen, people are not infallible and make mistakes. Doesn't get away from the fact that there have been a few tank slappers but I wonder if they would have been reported at all if Kevin Ash hadn't crashed. It is a tragedy for the family but there is no evidence to suggest BMW are culpable.

Of the reported tank slappers.... I understand there are 15000 LCs in circulation globally....say an average of 2000 miles each....works out to about 30 million miles covered by the model....think we might of heard something by now if there was a systemic failure.

"Demand for the water-cooled BMW R1200GS remains at a pleasingly high level. We have already sold over 25,000 of them to customers worldwide as of November.”

Show me an un-doctored video of a GS-LC having a genuine tank slapper then I'll believe it, but until that moment happens I'll continue to believe that it is probably a weedy excuse made up by someone who should own up to the truth of why he or she really fell off their bike!

My GS-LC is probably the most stable bike that I have even ridden.

All this media hype is exactly that.:rob
