Tar removal

I picked up some tar spots when riding through some roadworks on my RT. I have managed to remove the spots from the wheels with a combination of bike cleaner, a wheel brush and elbow grease. However I can't get the spots off the engine casing no matter how much elbow grease I use as I think the heat of the engine has baked them on. I'm thinking of using white spirit or meths but thought I'd get some views first as so many are meticulous about cleaning their RTs.

Thoughts please?

I used petrol at the weekend with no problem, however I used Mr Sheen general household polish yesterday for a detail clean and that worked okay too, just spray on the tar spot and leave it for a few minutes, in fact I used Mr Sheen on very bit of the bike yesterday except the tyres and seats, and it looks great today.

I have always used white spirit to shift tar spots on both the engine and plastics, but I make sure that any residue of white spirit is promptly removed.

Don't fight it, get an even coat of paddy puke and your worries are over

Diesel, or kerosene (central heating oil) - I would not use gasoline.

Soak the tip of a rag, dab it on and carefully wipe off after 5 minutes.

For the inner face of an exhaust can, soak a full rag, wring it out and drape over the can for 10 minutes.

Wipe off any oily residue and apply a good wax polish.

Brake cleaner,petrol,diesel will all do the job but they are aggressive chemicals that could cause damage to paint or plastics, I buy 5ltr tins of trade degreaser for less than a fiver which will do the job efficiently and safely. Screwfix sell a similar product.

If I was a bit smarter I would decant the degreaser into 250ml bottles call it magic ter remover and sell it on EBay for a fiver a pop, happy days.

Use furniture polish spray, something like Mr Sheen and just spray it over the tar spots and let it soak in then wipe off.

Lidl have some tar spot wipes in at the moment, 79p a pop. Got some yesterday to try on my WHITE car (why the feck did I listen to my daughter!)
