TBS screws ferked, now what????

Hi all,
tried all the suggestions using boiling water and a heat lamp but to no avail.
The screws are fast and won't budge the heads are now ferked.
Has anyone ever drilled them out??
Is it best to leave them and sync on the throttle stops & cable, Steppers anyone ???

Don't try and sync on the stops and cables - they don't work like that - that way lies madness.

The screws will have to come out (if you want to balance the TB's anyway ) - I might be inclined to remove the TB's and take them to an engineering shop (or send them to scriminger). Failing that have a go yourself, but you'll have to be very careful you don't drill too deep or it's new TB's - ££'s. New screws are available from motobins.

You need to set the TBS screws at idle before balancing the throttles with the RH cable. Don't touch the throttle stops.

If you've wrecked them in an attempt to remove them you may have to drill them out carefully and use an extractor.

I would remove the throttle bodies drill them ready for an extractor but put them in a pan of boiling water before trying to get the screws out.

look out for a pair of throttle bodies second hand

The TB screws are only to adjust the idle speed.

You can still adjust the throttle bodies under load in the usual way with the cable adjusters, just live with what ever the idle speed is.

The balance under load/throttle is the most important anyway, feck the idle.

Just save yourslf a whole shitload of grief and hassle and get a second hand set of TB's from whichever Used parts distributor you wish, You only need the bodies you have a black box you can remove and refit and set! so that will reduce the price considerably. I wish I had got one a lot sooner and am looking forward to half an hour spare to set mine up and get out an enjoy it!

Last Time I used Motorworks and I asked for a decent right hand one as mine was able to perform the whole percussion section of the 1812 overture all by itself

When you get them make sure and remove the screws and clean them well and use vaseline or rubber grease to seal the threads and o rings to stop the salts from getting down at them again. Once you have them set as you want just rub your finger over the top of the hole with a dollop of what you wish and you'll never have this problem again

I know about this cos I had a real pain in the ass job while at the dealers and got a hard time for fecking the screws despite taking all the precautions I could,
After that I reckon there were at least 200 bm's that were serviced that got a dose of rubber grease over the screws when I'd finished, unfortunately a practice frowned upon as it took more time and materials than it should have! Feck Them!

Anyway you also have Steptoe who sometimes has spares, Motobins and James Sherlock

Sounds like the Throttle Bodies should be removed and put in a drill press/pillar drill to allow careful drilling perpendicular to the TB's, otherwise theres a risk of drill wander or drilling too deep and the TB's are ruined.

A good trick is to use a left-hand fluted drill bit with the drill spindle in reverse (if you have access to such a drill). As the drill bites, the thread unscrews.

You can buy some DIY LH screw removing drills with the JML brand (sold at Wilkinsons etc) which are titanium nitride coated and work pretty well at removing household screws, they might work on your TB screws.

If you have a butane lighter-fuel powered soldering iron such as the kit I have, you could try directing the pencil flame onto the screw head before drilling.

Obviously ensure via the seller that a secondhand throttle body has screws that undo.

No point buying the same as what you already have.
