Advice pls. My TC's fog light switch now only works intermittently (pic attached). I have tried a few things and it is time to replace it.
Can this switch be replaced or is a whole new unit required?
How can I find the correct part number? Many thanks

The part No is 61317694815. But for that you get the switch and the cable loom and connector, so it makes the item expensive.

If you Google search the part No you will see.

I’m not sure the switch alone would be available. But if it was you would need to solder it to the cable loom. A lot depends on your skill level.

You could try spraying contact cleaner into the switch and exercising it. It might clear the build up of carbon deposits on the internal contacts which sounds like the problem.

BMW will can supply you with a new switch part no 61 31 7 694 815

Due to the fact it is coming from Europe you. An expect to pay about £95.
Motoworks don't have any 2nd hand ones in stock.

Mine packed, I opened it up to investigate and found it has a wee circuit board in the switch.
Nothing obvious like a dry joint and in true BMW style it's a complex wee board for such a simple operation.

I've had a look on line but can't find a similar sized standard 3 pole switch to replace it with so looks like at some point I'll have to fork out for a new one but at the moment my plan is to leave the dead one in situ to fill the hole and either short over the two pins to have aux light permanently on with ignition or put a wee switch somewhere else around the cockpit.

Excellent, thank you gentlemen. I tried the contact cleaner trick with no luck.
However, even though I searched there before, further googling got me to this ADVRider thread which suggests some fixes this.

I will try it next week. If it doesn't work I'll have to get a new switch, including the connector to under the tank cable. Thanks all. :thumby:

Hi
For what it’s worth I’ve just fixed mine by glueing a piece of inner tube instead of the capacitor - works a treat

Mine stopped working as well, I checked the fuses first and the were fine, I then changed the 2 relays under the tank...that didn’t work either, I then tried the fix that you have shown a link to....that didn’t work either, in the end I wired in separate leads to the battery with a relay and wired into the headlight side light to trigger them, ok I can’t turn them off when the bike is running, but I never did anyway.

I fixed the switch on the ex missus's adv. By adding a little piece of plastic as explained in the link you've quoted about 8 years ago.
Simple fix tbh. Definitely try this first. It should be all you need hopefully.

It's years later from the original post but I too have just solved the problem.
I simply used a small nut to make the plunger doo it's job better.
Now I have my lights back.
Thanks for the advice.
