Strip down time for the winter, swapping engines so I'm basically taking the whole thing apart. I'm about to get the front end off, started to undo the main bolt holding the telelever to the engine but I'm stuck!

As if sitting on the bike.....

Removed plastic caps, right hand side revealed large (17mm) standard bolt head behind large circlip. Removed circlip.

Left side revealed large allen bolt head.

Being stupid, I assumed that I simply needed to undo the two respective bolts and pull the long one out. Not so it would seem, unless I'm being particularly stupid!

The large allen head bolt didn't undo, it cracked! It has literally cracked in 3 places and is now of course a useless piece of soft metal. The normal bolt on the right seems to turn anti clockwise but doesn't seem to be undoing. It's also very stiff.

I know there are bearings holding the long bolt in place for the telelever to pivot on but I would have thought the bolt would simply pull out of these?

I;ve done a search of various sites including this one but can't see any description of this procedure anywhere.

Help!

You`ve got me confused now.....Telelever removal is a piece of pish, mate.

What exactly has broken ??? :nenau

Hi muppet
it happened to mee too. The bolt on the left was seized and despite using WD40 it wouldn't undo and it just cracked. The material had become really brittle so I got a screwdriver and a hammer and I hammered the central bit to make a hole in such a way I could slide the long bolt out. Maybe you can use a dremel but in my case the metal was so brittle that it didnt take me long to create a hole big enough.

Yup, that sounds just like what has happended, looks like I'll have to get brutal. Thankfully then it'll just mean a new cap, I was looking at a whole new bolt thing and knowing MBW prices that wasn't gonna be cheap.

Thanks, and you too MM the link with the pic from Gecko is much clearer than the parts fiche I've got.

Looks like theres a plastic cover - that looks exactly like an allen head bolt on mine - that needs to come out first.

Theres a clue in there somewhere :D :thumb
