Tell me about…Big Scoots

They are Gay as a parrot! Or so does the English man living in Blighty thinks. In Euroland, they are all the rage. Go get be, break the mould and the daft stereotype.

Hips being less mobile that I'd like pushed me towards a maxi scooter.

Had the 350ADV and went down to Africa on it from Aberdeen (used the Brittany Ferries and over-nighted in Ceuta) plus a couple of weeks around Aosta. Only needed a Maxxia top box plus the massive underseat storage for enough luggage room. Enjoyed it, but, overtaking was not as stress free as I'd like it, cruised at a GPS 70mph if there was no headwind / significant upslope, rear tyre changes a bit of a PITA.

Had enough spare cash to upgrade to a new Tmax. Yes it's expensive, but then most bikes seem to have gone to stupid levels of cash needed. Love the extra power, and fuel consumption for me isn't massively different to the ADV350, cruise control is great. Servicing is more expensive and more often that I'd ideally like, under seat storage isn't quite as massive, but is "sufficient". Looking forward to going down to Croatia in a couple of months where I suspect it'll love the mountain passes and motorway stints.

Went out last week with a friend on his 650 Burgman
He’s 82 (an ex motorcycle off-road & Army champion) and he’s a great rider, quick too
I was on my GS
We covered all manner of roads including some with grass & gravel
I was amazed at the capability and speed of the Burgman - plus electric screen and heated seats & screen
He’s taken it 2 up down to the Balkan’s with just a topbox for enough luggage
He has other normal bikes too
Great 2 wheelers

Just love the new 2025 750 Forza, but looking towards the 350 ADV, not heard a bad word about it on Facetube.

TD.

It was a toss up between that and the TMax. TMax won, but both good. I decided if I wanted a scooter, then I didn't want a scooter with a chain and with gears. So CVT and belt works for me. The Forza is cheaper though :)

Same here.

I’ve come across a Burgman 650, Executive White. 12,000 miles, 2016 with full service history. Electric screen, heated grips, heated rider and passenger seats, top box with backrest. Not too far away from me and reasonably priced. Had a few messages with the vendor and it looks very much like something I’d be interested in.

I always knew the decision to lose the big bikes would be a difficult one to make, specially as I have two that give me the best of both worlds. But time marches.

ive been fortunate enough to have had many different bikes. and my latest is a 560 tmax 2022 model. For me , not having something too big or bulky is ideal like and TA or GS etc, or mid size trailie, but it all depends what you want from it.

automatic is great, the cvt is a little odd when ive been riding two back to back models xad750 for the last 4 yrs, but the tmax / maxi scooter just suits me now. the dct honda is great better mpg if thats what you are after, but the tmax just has it on handling imo, especially two up, its posrtier, but can do it all - honda rear shocks are terrible, never again, esprcially two up or faster lone riding, they get squishy and bouncy, crazy. Tmax is way ahead of the xadv in handng department imo. myh onyl gripe is the 15 ltr tank but im managing ok, its good mpg on long runs, city is around 40ish. In pouring rain the weather protection is great from both bikes, but id rather the tmax, no chain either.

im really tempted for the current new model Tmax but im waiting to see if they do anything for 2026 as yamaha ireland will be quick to have new models into ireland unlike honda. maybe the tmax will be newcoliurs, i like the current white-ish colour but the polished rims do nothing for me.
