tell me about your 1190

has anyone who has an R ever felt the need to buy a set of road sized wheels?

Why would you want to change wheel size? I really don't notice the 21" front wheel. For me it handles great, turns in at just about the right speed and gives you the option of that better off road capability. My last bike was a 2014 ZZR 1400 rocket ship and I feel the 1190r turns in quicker and is easier to handle. On a track day I found the sports bikes with normal road sized wheels were slower in tight corners which held me up. Admittedly they were generally faster on the straights but only by a very small margin depending on track. For me I would say stick with what you have.

I'm tempted with another set of the same sized wheels, so I can have one for dirt tyres and one for road tyres, but the only reason I'd consider the non R wheels is if I fancied doing some track days on it. The rubber available in these sizes would overheat in an instant in track. It's ideal for the road tho.

I've taken mine on a track day (Oulton Park last summer) and the stock tyres were fine. Plenty enough grip for me.

Well yeah, it does rather depend on how much stick you give them, but in general, they aren't up to a fast group pace.

Milkmaid knows how to give tyres some stick, trust me :thumb2

Giles did a track day in France this summer too and I know he doesn't hang about either (mind you he did come off :D).

Never said otherwise.
If they were good enough for hard track use however, you'd see more people using road attacks (on which trail attacks are based) on track. You don't, because whilst they are a great tyres and adequate for running adequate lap times, they simply aren't up to fast track use. They'll take you so far, then they WILL start spinning and sliding and overheat. Generally in a very controlled manner though.
Simple fact of the matter is that given enough talent a rider would find the limit of R sized rubber some time before the limit of the sportier rubber available to the other sizes. Whether that's a problem for the average track dayer is a different matter.

Congrats on your new toy!

You need to sort those leaves out though... ;) (we get hammered by 3 mature oak trees every autumn, it's a right bloody mare)

Nice one sir! HTR! :thumb2

I'm off out to put on my WP stickers - thanks for reminding me.

Excellent!
Interested to hear how it compares to the fully orange one...

So cookie .... What are your thoughts on the front end now ..?

it was more the back end of the old one that bothered me. when i've done more than 60 miles on the R, i'll post up what i think are the main differences between the models. right now i'd say "rather more than i thought". it's quite a different bike :D

Nice one Cookie.:thumb

The R looks much nicer. Don't tell Giles I said anything nice though!:D

You'd hate it Nutty ....
