tell me about your 1190

I need to muster up some serious brownie points with my missus .... :D

............

Out on the road, the decat is instantly noticable. The throttle is just so light and airy, sharp and crisp. You can almost feel the fuel rushing through. Re-map on the cards now to make it a little richer (protect it) and to finish off the fuelling.

PS Oh, I use the Kreiga loop system on my Husky - simple and does the job, perfectly!

I was impressed with the exhaust place. They actually deal in suped up cars but really knew their onions, 'can you decat this?' was met with 'well of course we can - it's bread and butter stuff here ... '. It makes the decision of whether to go down the route of Remus header pipes (£400+) V cutting it out the original a bit of a no brainer. They charged by the hour and it would have been even cheaper if I hadn't have rounded off two of the bolts trying to get the bash plate off .... :D (Having told them I'd just bring the exhaust system in, ended up riding in and they took it off, did the business, then refitted it .... ). :thumb2

The rack loops look neat, I've not seen them before. I'm trying to remember how the side panels are fixed? The back is held on with just a tiny self tapper. I'm wondering are they secure enough?

Hi Giles
Where are they based please, and how much do you think it would be if I took my exhaust to them?

Yes Cookie ... I spent two or three days humming and harring before I went with the kreiga loops. They have a really nice finish and are cleverly made. I've had a good look at the bodywork and I'm happy it's secure enough - the painted upper part of the rear fairing is fixed to the black lower section in three or four different locations and feels very secure. The back two loops are drilled into the black plastic under the luggage rack - that's particularly secure; I had to remove the grab handles and luggage rack to lift the black plastic enough to get the loop anchor points in.

The 'base plate' of the anchor point sort of self taps into its 6mm hole - you have to screw it up towards you. It's a good snug fit :thumb2

Ashford.

They charge by the hour. Mine was £180 but having told them I'd bring the exhaust in seperately, managed to feck up getting off the bash plate (should have tapped my thread locked bolts first but didnt and ended up rounding two off ...) so pitched up on the bike for them to sort. However ... that's not such a bad idea - the header pipes are pretty fiddly to get off, and your bike is a natural jig - they offered the exhaust system back onto the bike, stuck three of four spot welds on the new section that was perfectly lined up, before dismantling it again and welding it properly. So in many ways, a ride in ride out process will potentially give you a better fit.
Speak with Barry (workshop manager) as he did mine. If you remind him that he recently did an 1190 .... you'll have the benefit of the fact that he should be quicker second time around! I thought they were pretty professional ... :thumb2

Thanks Giles
What's your plans regarding remaps, hilltop? Or power commander? Do you think it will be lean?

Regards

Andrew

i was wondering how they got it to line up again after surgery. would have been a mare off the bike.

Has anybody found a 'fender extender' that's finished in the same finish as the mudguard? I only seem to be able to find gloss ones.......

Sorry for the delay .....

Yes, I'm sure it will be running lean. So a trip to Hilltop. It'll protect it and will be the finishing touch to convert factory fuelling (as good as it is .. ) to something a little bit special ... :thumb2

Excuse my ignorance, if the bike is remapped by an independent, does that then negate all the manufacturers standard maps? Not that it would be a major loss... How is the remap performed without a power commander on an an 1190? Does it support TuneECU or similar? If you remap, do you still have control of TC settings? Now where did I leave that bottle of Scotch...

Have a look at the hilltop thread in the WC section - it's about a thousand pages long ..!

In a nut shell there are two ways of tuning the fuelling in your bike; remapping the ecu or using a power commander. It doesn't affect TC settings. :thumb2

Just fitted my Wings 'shorty' :)

The quality really is outstanding isn't it! and all dealings with Wings (including the panels I bought a while ago) have been spot on, Gorazd is a great guy to deal with :thumb2

Also, I'd not actually heard one before and feck does it sound good :)

That's it now, the bike's pretty much how I want her - the love affair continues.....................
