Hi folks , I'm new here so firstly greetings to all .i just got a 2013 Gs LC last week , I was in the city today in stop and go traffic today and the bike overheated.
The fan came on at 212 F (100c) and temp kept rising until 257F (125c) the red triangle warning light was on the display.

As soon as I hit the open road it returned to 183F( 84c )and the light went off.

Firstly there is only a fan on the right hand radiator , presume this is Correct.?

Secondly is it normal for temperature to increase this high ?i would expect the fan to keep the temp reasonably constant.
I checked the coolant and it is at max level
Any help appreciated.

Did a bit of gentle green laning recently on a hot day (24 degrees I think) on my gs lc, bimbling along at 10-15mph. The temp climbed to 100 before the fan cut in, it quickly came down to 95 at which point the fan cut out. It never got above 100.

Normal riding it is usually at 80 to 82 degrees

Sounds like yours needs checking...

Thanks Steve for the info, I'll get it checked out

Should not go above 100C, fan (just the one fitted) should keep it in control, is the radiator clear of debris? radiator full / expansion tank between fill lines? (check when cold)! if so, could be a sticky thermostatbut have not heard of this before? be carefull not to cook the motor before resolving!!!

Down here every day inland between 32 to 40 C , and the fan cuts in at 100 then temp drops to 82/84 it never Go's above 100. I would get it checked out. And welcome to the forum.:beerjug:

+1 what Rockred said. I've ridden mine in over 40 degrees C down here with Touratech rad guards fitted, the engine's never been above 100.

My 2015 TE has never gone above 100 even in 35C ambient.

In 35 C degree plus heat in stop start traffic as soon as mine hits 100 C degrees on the display the fan cuts in and stays in until it has gone down to below 90 C.

In Munich last year the fan was basically on solid for 45 minutes whilst stuck in city traffic due to the G7 Summit ................it got up to 105 C a couple of times but never any higher and never high enough for the red warning triangle to illuminate.

Thanks a lot for the clarification guys, now i know it shouldnt go above 100deg C !
I dont have rad guards , no crud in radiator - I gave it a good clean when i got it, However when i took off the side panel for closer inspection although the coolant bottle is at Max level when i took the cap off the radiator (while the bike was upright ) i cant see ANY coolant at all ?!?! WTF

there may be some in there but its not up to the filler neck as per the manual anyway , so maybe there is an Airlock in the coolant system ? or a blockage ? not so good :blast

Fill it at the radiator (cold) top it right up & squeeze / massage the pipes to push any air out, as the thermostat opens, it may release air & require a repeat performance. hopefully no damage done already? good luck, let us know how you go on?

Do you have any sign of coolant leakage from the water pump, there is a small drain hole on left side of engine below cylinder head?

No sign of any leaks thankfully , I was keeping an eye out as I only have it a week- I'll just bring it back to the dealer and let them sort it .

Thanks Mc I'll bring it to the dealer first and let em try to sort it.

I have rad guards fitted to mine and have ridden it in traffic on a 40c day but never went above 102c. Sounds like air trapped in the radiator.

You could try burping the radiator and seem if you get any bubbles. If someone flushed the coolant but did not fill it properly under vacuum then that could be your issue
