Ive had 3 '87 K100RS's in the past (one of them was bolted to a sidecar) and Ive started hankering after another. They were always dead reliable and had a lovely turbine power delivery.

Looking around, the later K1100RS's dont seem much more money, but Ive never ridden one of them (or even a 16v 100 come to think of it).

Are the 1100 engines and/or the 16 valvers a big improvement, or should I just stick to looking for an old 8v 100?

IMHO Biggest benefit of the early ones is they are MONOLEVER:thumb2 the later paralevers are the ones that instilled my hatred of all things para

Hmm, Im glad I asked the question.

There's a nice late, low mileage 1100 for under £2K at Sherlocks at the moment, but Id never get on with the colour.

Ill keep my eye out for a nice 8v 100.

Cheers for that.

I don't think the 1100 16V engine was as reliable as the 1000. The 8V K100 was a bit of a bland dog. Fantastic reliable bike but ultimately very dull. I had a 16V 1000cc K1 which was incredible. I put 82k on it and it ran like clockwork.

I'd go for the 16V 1000RS.
