I agree with you Sy, you can never really hope to have it properly dry until you're back home and have a bit of time. A dedicated dry bag in the interim is a good solution.

When I started going away for a few weeks at a time camping off bikes , I found the tent was always wet either on top or underneath , never dryable so it goes into its own Ortlieb waterproof bag and sits across the rear between the panniers , View attachment 495480as it simply doesn’t do putting the tent stuff sack into a a pannier as it sets out all the stuff around it .
If you get a few wet days it’s impossible to dry it so stuff it wet , put it up wet ,, and just sponge the floor dry , the interior inner seems to dry out quite quickly once it is put up . ( Hilliberg )

packed away pissed through and put back up soaking wet.

give it a shake and inside floor of tent was wet, wipe with towel and sit around having a few Brandys.... then put your stuff into tent once the dripping stopped lol

The really good tents ,,, don’t tend to leak - my old Hilliberg ( used when bought) has never leaked at all ,, an has been used a LOT

This is what I do. If you sleep in a tent, you are either on a camping trip and the tent is likely coming out again that night or going home and the tent is definitely coming out as soon as you get back. Tents don't go mouldy overnight. Well, not in the UK they don't.

Halfords microfiber work well when I'm cycle touring and they are flannel size. Also pitch your tent where it will get the morning sun, hopefully.

My 3 second tent just requires the shake for few seconds to remove droplets settled on it overnight, shaking the tent when its fully erect, seems to be the best trick. I love my tent, quick to erect, quick to pack away inside it's own waterproof bag.
Saves me time and myself getting damp while putting it up and away.
Proper drying, I leave it up all day in my back garden when home, perfectly dry before storing for next trip.
