I collect my new Blue GSA this weekend :bounce1 (lucky me) but I have been told that I might not have the Ally panniers available because the locks are on back order, and 'everyone is in the same boat'.

Is anyone else having this issue?

I'm not overly bothered as I will have done my Tesco shopping on the K16 before I say goodbye to her :D but it would have been nice to have had everything 'just so'.

Might be worth contacting Chandlers in Brighton as I am picking up my XE next week which has a set on that were on display on my bike , which I haven't bought . If that makes sense ! I just wanted a top box . They may already be going on another bike but worth a call . or get your dealer to:thumby:

When I picked up mine last week I was told the locks for my top box had been ordered to match my Ignition key from the factory, they didn't arrive in time for the day I collected the bike, my dealership had a number of locks that had been ordered in error going spare, I spoke to the techy/parts guy about this and he suggested we try my ignition key in one of the surplus locks, the key fitted but 3 of the lock wafers sat proud of the lock barrel with the key in place (they need to sit flush) he took the lock barrels and the key and ground the protruding wafers down with the key in the lock barrel until they were flush, they both fitted into the top box clasps and we agreed this was an acceptable compromise until "my" locks arrived and we could swap the temporary lock barrels for the pre-ordered versions.
My locks arrived the next day
So if you're dealer has surplus locks going spare a temporary fix can be found assuming they are prepared to go the extra mile to help, the reason for the surplus locks is that they arrive as sets (per pannier or top box) not as individual items, my dealership had been ordering in 3 lock kits for a pannier and 3 sets had arrived from Germany (3 per set) they tell me they are not alone in this ordering error and speculated it might explain the lock shortage :augie

Edit; The new locks cannot be disassembled and rebuilt with different wafers like the older versions.

Third quarter of 2014 for the locks, according to some dealers.

When I bought my GSA end of February the dealer said locks will be here by the end of March and they will key them. It was revised to "will ship from Germany" by the end of March. Now he says those locks are back ordered indefinitely. But he can order locks through BMW parts department already key'd to my VIN at three times the cost. :eek Thankfully he has agreed to do so and will absorb the added cost. He said he's thinking BMW is going to no longer offer the key-able locks so they'll all have to be ordered (expensively) through parts with the VIN.

Not come across many locks that can't be disassembled, if someone can take a clear picture of the inner barrel and post it up here I would be interested at having a look.

Oh bugger...... I ordered my gsa on Saturday

With full ally panniers

Looks like l will be waiting a few months for the panniers then :-(

The panniers still function and latch w/o locks so you can use them.

Not a WC piss-take, but if it were me, I'd tell the dealer to keep the bike (and I'd keep the dosh) until the bike is complete.

HTF can BMW find themselves in a position of not having locks? Someone in Munich ought to be offering up their balls to their boss ....

I'll have you know that BMW is a proudly equal opportunity employer.

Frau Jurgen has apologised by bursting into tears and they have sacked Abdul the Turk.

Does anyone know if these are the same barrels used on the previous panniers?

I know the ones I have are recodeable (if that's a real word) think I'd be suggestion I'll keep all my own barrels.

Then you'd also need to keep your ignition barrel, too.

Have fun taking it out, persuading the dealer to do the same on their bike and the putting the whole shooting match back together again.

Here we go again.

Instrument Cluster for twin cam 1200GS on eternal backorder (gave up after 6 months).

Locks on GSA WA luggage on eternal back order.

Genius.
