There is an update which amongst other things solves the fuel range problem on the TFT.

Apparently, its been heard that BMW are charging 3-6 hours labour for the update!!! Surely this cant be right.

Can anyone throw some light on this?

Getting the TFT software update done tomorrow.

It’s FOC of cause. I’m aware that it does solve the fuel range issue readout but will report back. :thumb2

Was told it’s about 2-3 hours. Nothing else needs doing so hopefully will be on my way by lunchtime.

is there a quicker way of resetting the trip counter with out having to go into the sub menus?

That sounds like a very big rumour, i don't think any dealer would charge thier customers for it, the fallout would not be worth it. also i believe dealers can bill the mothership for a small amount.

Can’t see a charge for this work, if it’s a problem surely it’s covered under warranty? They have only been out ten minutes !

Given its a new bit of kit any work on it will be covered on your warrenty even replacements should it fail.

Got my Rallye updated last Thursday completely free of charge. Yes, the update does takes 2 hours but it's not 2 hours of labor, they connect the bike and launch the sequence(and maybe have to redo it since it's prone to crap out midway). This update does solves issues that are covered under warranty(bluetooth connectivity, occasional blank screen), so making the customer pay for it would be tantamount to racket.

The update does solve the fuel range readout. Previously, there was a hard coded max range value that was displayed whenever the tank was full(261km). Now the range is correctly "guesstimated" based on the previous mean consumption. In addition to that, since that update, my bike seems to do noticeably better in term of mileage... Could be just a byproduct of improved readouts but I could swear I was pumping the same amount of gas for less km. Went roughly from 300km max to 340/360km.

First service next week and they're going to update it then f.o.c.

Could the fuel range possibly be a case where the factory loads a conservative default fuel range value rather than the range showing blanks at the first startup when bike is new, and then as you start to consume fuel the range will gradually adjust to reflect the actual consumption based on realtime riding?

The default value was here for the first 6'000km, and did not gradually adjust(nothing changed after the first service). It went overnight from always displaying 261km when I topped up (and stood there for a while) to a value more close to what the last mpg was projecting (~350km around 5.5liters/100km).

Could very well be that they previously missed some software updates not related to the TFT one, but from my standpoint, this issue(as well as a smoother GSAP) was fixed after the TFT update.

Update done and all is good. :thumb2

1) Fuel to empty properly displayed based on current consumption.
2) ABS Pro displayed on start up.
3) New swish interchange between menus.
4) No more occasional blank screen.
5) No issues with connectivity with other Bluetooth devices (well mine anyway).
6) Possibly smoother operation of quickshifter? Feels like it anyway.

And the ability to change parameters in rider mode settings ! Enduro and Dynamic...

I had my TFT upgraded at my 1st (600 mile) service last Thursday, I had fitted the BMW spotlamps from my old bike prior to the service.

The TFT would not allow the connection of the spotlamps until it had been allowed to upgrade.

The technician at Alan Jefferies told me that the upgrade was going to take 120 minutes, and asked me if I still wanted it doing, I said yes and I waited.

The upgrade took 120 minutes (2 hours) as quoted.

There were no issues, no crashes and no problems, and it looks really cool now when you change the pages/screens. :thumb2
