TFT update

Lots of versions flying around, anyone have a definitive version number of the latest software offering?

My 2018 R1250 went in on Monday last week for a clutch cover gasket replacement (it was leaking) to have the shift assist pro looked at and the TFT / firmware updated from the original spec build of 001_018_040 that the bike was delivered with.

still haven't got the bike back due to the problem with the shift assist pro not being resolved after a week with the bike connected to the factory... apparently a technical investigation is underway to resolve its incorrect operation... ill let you know what the firmware number is when it comes back hopefully later this week.

I had my TFT firmware updated today. When I booked it in for a service and requested the firmware update I was told by one staff member, no problem, the bike is under warranty, yes we can do that.
However when I dropped the bike off this morning another staff member asked me if there was a problem with the current firmware version because if not they could not update it. In fact they then expanded on that and went as far as saying, they were not allowed to do any firmware updates unless there was an issue. Naturally I made them aware that there was a problem connecting to my phone so they did it. :green gri

I had mine done today to the latest version took 3 hours, a 40 mile ride there and 40 back for no reason at all the connection issues are exactly the same, had the Salesman come out to check it as he was supposed to be the TFT guru he had less idea on connecting all the bits Nav, Sena, iphone, TFT than I did, and said "id contact the dealer where you bought it"

I Did as soon as I got home and they went mad saying the bike is under 3 years warranty and they should have investigated it fully

I had an idea to drop the connection of my Iphone 11 proXL and paired my sons Samsung S10 plus Instantly everything connected correctly the TFT to the pahon to the nav to the sena and all functions worked straight away music, Nav Phone and the app thats only ever connected once since ive had the bike
ive done 3 routes and turned the bike on and off at least 20 times over the last 8 hours and each time it works perfectly

so there lyes the problem its an apple issue, well for my bike it was anyway its without a doubt worth a try to connect another phone just to see if it will work, Ive just ordered him a new S21 and im having the S10 just to use on the bike with a cheap £15 per month EE sim card in it with unlimited calls and texts and 15Gig of data per month, ill forward all calls from the Iphone to the S10 when im out on the bike !!

Not exactly the best resolution but a resolution none the less, and one that will allow me to use all the bike functions as they were supposed to be used till they actually find a software update that allows you to use an Iphone !!

I think they may have changed the frequency when it cycles the flapper valve at switch on. Mine used to do it every time you switched ignition on but last year after update it only cycles randomly at ignition switch on. Cynical me thinks it may be to stop people hearing it squeak :-)

My new bike is going in today for its first service. I have TFT software version 022-005-041. Everything is working well, my phone connection is perfect (Android) but TFT is missong info about ECO mode. From the day one I complained but dealer seemed to either care less or they have no idea what was going on.
Anyway, I'll insist on new software today (022-007-020), just to have it working perfectly and showing all info on TFT as it's supposed to.

I don’t think BMW and their dealers have quite understood what software updates are for. They exist for 2 reasons:
1) Fixing bugs
2) Adding new/improved features

It seems like they’re trying to turn it into some sort of dark art, so you don’t need it unless something is wrong, or trying to charge for it. The rest of the world (where the software is the product on its own) either charges for a major version update, or it’s free for the patches in between. BMW really needs to get their act together - either it’s free and done routinely or they need to justify charging for it, and charging all the time.

Just left the bike at the dealer for its first service and they said they have had my complain already registered in their system and there was the response from Germany. As they can't garanty that 022-007-020 will solve the problem they asked to wait two more weeks as even newer version is being launched and that one will solve the problem for sure. They said to bring the bike in two weeks and they will make the update for that newer version. Will see.

still don't know the update number of my firmware, the bikes still with the dealers awaiting gearbox parts from Germany,, problem with first / second gear shafts apparently.

Picked my new bike up with software number 001-019-180, which I'm assuming is out of date? Am having issues with it forgetting paired devices, so want to get this addressed. Am i right in thinking current version is 022-007-020, but a newer version is expected any day now? Its a bit irritating as the bike was serviced by them before it was sold and you would have thought any service would include a routine check for updated software. Now I'll need to make a special journey 40 miles away and of course the showroom is closed so will end up sitting out side for hours waiting for it.

I asked this question of Bahnstormer. They told me that 022-007-020 is the current software version. I pressed them and asked if there was a newer version around the corner and they said no. Not sure if different markets have differing software versions?

I assumed this is the latest version:
S/W version: 022_005_041
My bike was delivered a week last Friday.

Not sure what the BMW numbering convention is but, a newly delivered bike is no guarantee of it having the latest version of the software on it. Several on here have experienced that. I would think though that 022-007 is a later version than 022-005. Bit like the first thing you do when you get a new phone - update to the latest version of the OS. You would think that the PDI would bring it up to date wouldn't you?

When my bike was in for its first service, it needed software update as my TFT is missing few things that it should have. Official response from BMW was that TFT needed update as there must be something that went wrong when TFT was loaded with software at the fatory. It was 2 weeks ago and mechanic said that the newest version he had was 022-007-020 but in about a week there was even a newer one coming because of new RT model that has some issues with 022-007-020. He told me that the best would be to wait one more week to get the latest version.
So it was two weeks ago and I hope they have it ready. I'll post back tomorrow after I come back from the dealer.

Mine was updated to that version last July. My understanding is the latest version is 022-007-020 (which makes sense as its a later number). Although I'm happy with the 041 version, unless there is anything really major, not sure I'll go for the update. Its a shame one can't find out what the changes between the versions are to enable a considered decision to be made as to whether to update or not

The perhaps very reasonable assumption to make would be that a later software version improves things!

Just got back from the dealer. Mechanic said he's got new software last Friday and he'll call me to make an appointment to leave the bike there. I asked about software version and he showed me on his computer and said on their computers it doesn't show the same reference as after it was installed on the bike so he couldn't say the version number we know of. I looked on his computer and it was true. It was big sequence of letters and digits but it had the date and it was 11th of March 2021.
