That didn’t go terribly well!

It's not common knowledge in any of the dealerships that I frequent

In fact. One of those very dealers has just taken on a second driver/valeter. Bought another new delivery van and employed a fourth technician :thumb2

And all this done as we sail toward winter time :clap

That doesn't strike me as an industry or dealership on it's knees

Oh sorry, I genuinely hadn't heard that one dealership had taken on one new driver and one new technician...I feel such a fool and totally see your point on how this changes everything.

:D:D

FFS! How utterly ridiculous. Do you expect the dealer to know how far you've travelled when you walk through the glass door?

Maybe we should all book our bikes for services at dealers at the "other" end of the country,in the hope of getting a tremendous discount?

The deal had already been done so the dealer knew his address not that it makes much difference

Yep, taken on one new driver/valeter and one new technician coming up to winter, when traditionally you would expect motorcycle dealers to be laying people off, which very much flies in the face of the 'common knowledge' only you appear to know about

It must be fucking gloomy in Derbyshire

I wish my Ducati Dealer would take on new staff, I have bought 3 new ducats's off them, over last 5 years, for my last one, servicing costs doubled, warranty work on engine that was not urgent they refused to do until winter, so a 4 month wait. Their attitude stinks now, all because they are selling more new bikes and have no interest in older customers, ironic though I will never use or buy another bike from them ever.

Update

BMW are supplying the exhaust parts as a good will gesture, the fork seal is covered under the insured warranty and a replacement brake cylinder seal is £6. As the parts amount to £1,200 I’m happy with the result.

Once sorted I’ll start searching for another bike. Cheers

And therin lies the min profit the dealer would have made on your bike ;)

Not at all, Santa-2512 the dealer would have been better off, as they could have got the work and claimed most back under warranty, and then easier to sell with all new parts etc. In fact Dealer lost out

Having worked in the motor trade for a good few years if there was a profit in it they would go for it. JJH

The dealer would have to be very careful here. If they agreed to take a bike in as a part exchange that came with a used vehicle warranty in place then that warranty would then expire and the dealer would be expected to cough up the cost of the replacement parts/labour

If the work was carried out whilst still in the ownership of the seller then that's different and a claim could be made on the policy

You are correct, insured warranty is non transferable, not even to a private buyer and certainly not a dealer (although the balance is refundable on cancellation).

To add to the issue in this instance the exhaust repairs were not covered by warranty but by a good will gesture.

I had one new Ducati which was a fantastic bike apart from it kept going wrong. Thankfully the dealer in Bristol was great but I sold it after a year and haven't been tempted to buy another.

Must be concerning owning a Ducati out of guarantee. Hopefully they're much more reliable now.
