I agree with the above.
It is interesting though that this show verified how easy it is to make alternative side panels and beaks. This is DA bike.
It is very interesting how exhaust makers have all "attacked" (in less than a year) and made alternatives, even multiple alternatives. Seems the market is rather active for this bike. This can only show one thing (even is some people cannot accept that).

Thank you for the photos. I am still waiting for someone to get my two Akrapovic (ON the bike) photos and publish them.

i am gadget freak, when did you say the system v helmet will be out, between march and may 2005? is this for the UK market?

so, would i be able to obtain one quicker from germany together with the bluetooth gadgetry?

Hi Tigerwoods,

I was told by the BMW Rep that the System 5 helmet is being released in March, although he didn't say if this was Germany only or included the UK too. The March release will be the helmet only, without gadgets. However, as all helmets are pre-prepared for this, it can be added at any time later. He was less certain about when the gadgetry would be available (including bluetooth, speakers, microphone, rechargeable batteries and electronics). He suggested April was possible, but more likely to be May.

He also explained that BMW will also sell a 'box' to be fitted on the bike somewhere, to accept audio inputs (eg.MP3 player, Sat Nav, Mobile phone, etc). This will connect to the helmet using the bluetooth. The only possible physical helmet connection needed is a power cable from the bike's 12V outlet to the helmet on long trips that are beyond the helmet's battery life.

I'm also keen on my gagets, so I'll be buying the System 5 helmet in April when I pick-up my new 12GS and will add the gadgets when released, although I need to check how and if it works with my Baehr Intercom first (it may have made this excellent system obsolete). I'm also wondering what sort of range the bluetooth has as well.

Hope this helps. Cheers, Steve

mmh that dirty wunderlich bike looks pretty nice.

That boGSer paint job looks great.

 mmmh....

Hi Steve,

I'm also wondering what sort of range the bluetooth has as well.

I too am considering the System V helmet so I did a bit of research around Bluetooth. Apologies if I wander off topic a little here:

Bluetooth gadgets use radio frequencies to communicate between each other. Each Bluetooth network consists of one Master and at least one Slave. A Master can have a maximum of seven Slaves. In the case of the System V the helmet itself will be the Master and all other gadgets will be the Slaves. The Bluetooth radio frequencies are so low powered they have a maximum range of just 10 metres. The Master and Slaves automatically associate themselves with each other so no configuration is necessary. Just put a suitable mobile phone in your pocket and the helmet should do the rest.
So what about interference with other gadgets? Well, sooner or later you will come close to someone else that is using Bluetooth so interference is inevitable but, and this is a big BUT, all Bluetooth gadgets change the frequency they use to communicate to the Master 1,600 times a second. The Master can keep track of this so if you are unlucky enough to get interference from someone else's Bluetooth gadgets it will only be for a few milliseconds. Fortunately, the software inside these gadgets has been designed in such a way that it can work out what is interferece and what isn't so the user isn't even made aware.

Here endeth the lesson. I'll put my white coat away now :)

I don't believe BMW can come up with a better system that Baehr does. I would also say the price will be way up there.

BMW will not be making the new system it will be another company and it may well be Baehr. It would be interesting to find out.

Couldn't agree more, Baehr certainly make a great intercom, if not an expensive one; but with adjustable everything and so many features, I was happy to pay. I just hope it's compatable with the system v helmet so I can keep using it, or at the very least, that the BMW system is as good.

Cheers, Steve

What will happen to BMW Vario luggage system ? I am not too sure it would fit any longer...

Some of the kit (mainly Touratech) looks quite nice. A lot of it looks pants.

I was pondering the all-silver look for my bike but having seen the photos I've gone completely off the idea. Yellow/gray with wire wheels still looks the best in my totally unbiased view.

On the Bluetooth front - it initially seems quite a good idea, but having spent some time with mobiles trying to get them to work with other things and it's a real pain in the botty. It would solve the wire problem, but a good setup should only have one wire to each helmet anyway.

And it's yet another bloody thing to recharge. I have about a hundred things to recharge every night (at least) and have adaptors all over the place. The solution is at www.splashpower.com of course!

It will not take baehr long to come up with a bluetooth box to add to the system.

MUNICH

Here also are some pic from the Munich show. I think that the Akrapovic exhaust previously mentioned is not an underseat, but a side exhaust. It was only a prototype and was the usual Titanium can stainless pipes mix.
Here are the photo, hopefully in this order:
1. ICE DISPLAY ON BMW STAND - THE STAND WAS THE BEST AT THE SHOW - AND A SHADOW OF IT WILL APPEAR AT THE N.E.C.
2 & 3 BEAUTIFUL BMW ENGINED QUADS - BUT POINTLESS.
4. AC SCHNITZEN MOTARD SPECIAL - I LIKED IT, BUT IT IS MEGABUCKS.
5. K1200S ON VOLCANO.
6. NATIONAL CYCLE GS FITTED WITH TWIN XENON LIGHT - COST ABOUT £1,000.
7. WUDO SPECIAL - INTERESTING.
8. WUNDERLICH SPECIAL - ALSO INTERESTING, BUT NOT THAT SPECIAL.
9 & 10 VARIUOS 1200GS CARBON

The Munich show id bi-annual and easily the best in the world featuring everything from everyone, outside displays, test rides, camping and of course the beer festival!!
Hope the pics work and apologies if any of the images are repeated.
Rumours at the show:
The R1200RT was withdrawn at the last minute due to large unsold stock?
The new K1200R (interesting styline) will be called the Boxster!
Cheers
Nippy

As the two previous images show, faired in indicators or spotlights seem to be all the rage - look naff to me

The only way is to link to them Norman.......you can't upload more than one at a time.

If it's an online image, get the url, then click the IMG button at the top and paste the url into the box.

Linking is also good because the images are then held remotely rather than taking up BHT's server space.
