Everybody’s favourite motorcycle clothing guru speaks much sense

He’s obviously much hated on here but he does talk some sense .

Due to a succession of Motolegends Sunday Sales, I’ve ended up with exactly what El Cùnto Capo recommendeds as the perfect layering setup , namely Klim Zephyr worn under Klim Marrakech worn under Scott Ergo Pro.

Used the system in its entirety for first time on recent Spain/Portugal trip in temperatures ranging from 12-37 degrees c and it was genius .

Admittedly didn’t need Scott as only rain we had stopped within 5 minutes .
But I’ve used it before and it’s been 100 % waterproof.

Bollocks to stopping and putting on waterproofs. I'd rather be a little warm with jacket unzipped and all vents opened. If it rains I can close them all on the move.

Works for me. Not touched any of my goretex stuff this year.

I Must be on the wrong forum this must be the loaded section ,how much was all that klim stuff

It depends on how hot it is. My layering (base layer, AdventureSpec Supershirt, motocross style jersey, Mosko Surveyor softshell and Richa rain jacket) worked so well in Australia. Most of the time I didn't use the top two layers and was really comfortable - no comparison to a conventional vented jacket. This was in temperature in the mid thirties. Wearing my old Furygan jacket in similar temperatures in Colombia on the previous trip was diabolical - it just doesn't flow anything like enough air and feels horribly bulky now. Never again. I'm with AdvSpec and The Twat in the Hat on this one.

Depends when and where you’re riding .
I still have laminated Goretex kit but it would have been very uncomfortable on our recent trip.
You'll be more than a little warm at the moment in the UK in your laminated jacket.
I agree that stopping and putting waterproofs on is a pain . If I was away for a week and it was going to rain every day I’d probably take my goretex kit . But if it is warm and mainly dry then layering is a far better option.

I reckon Goretex is of limited use on a bike. To be properly waterproof it needs to have a hot human on the inside, not one freezing half to death because unlike the walkers it was designed for he's just sitting there.

Best thing about layering is when you get somewhere you just take your wet layer off, give it a shake, stash it back wherever you keep it, and walk into the cafe/pub/hotel/tesco/Starbucks/tent clean and dry.

I’ve got the full Motolegends set up, although I think my old BMW rainlock jacket was a better outer layer, and much prefer it to my previous mk1 Klim Badlands suit in all conditions. In fact I thought the badlands was pretty crap actually very heavy, and leaked badly into my neck, through zip, and through the pockets. Plus for a laminated suit it took a bloody age to dry.

Was in France last week and used a Triumph branded mesh jacket - worked well up to circa 35 degrees but when it got to closer 40 degrees you felt like you needed to keep the breeze out as it no longer had a cooling effect. Overall though worked better than my usual Klim Badlands jacket with lots of vents.

Complete opposite for me, I have the full Klim Marrakesh etc outfit with the Scotts and also a mk2 Badlands.

Having worn the Badlands for 10 years, 10 trips to Spain in the summer June or September for 2 - 3 weeks at a time and then using the Marrakesh set up this year and last the Badlands wins hands down in all conditions. The only advantage with the Marrakesh is the lack of weight when wearing it, but once on the move this advantage disappears.

In future the Marrakesh will be used for summer day rides in the UK, the Badlands for holidays and multi-day trips or when the weather is changeable. Maybe the light grey Marrakesh may be cooler, but the black Marrakesh pants were way too hot 2 weeks ago in the Dolomites & in the Swiss Alps 3 weeks ago. Can’t say I’ve ever noticed the Badlands pants being so hot.

Not seen Marrakesh pants , but getting them in black then expecting them to be cool is asking a bit much .

I use my Marrakesh jacket with Rokker Cargo Pants which have proved to be brilliant.
Much lighter than their jeans but same protection

I have a Klim Kodiak suit that sees me through late Autumn to Spring. I couldn’t justify a Klim Marrakesh etc to the resident bank manager but I wanted a mesh jacket to replace an ancient one I had that had negligible protection. I’ve bought an Oxford Dakar Dry2Dry Air jacket from Sportsbikeshop. In green it was £100 (black is £180) & comes with a detachable waterproof liner. So far so good though I haven’t had to use the liner-yet. On colder mornings I have a Klim Zephyr shirt that I wear under the jacket so I do get the annoying git’s take on layering. VFM I think the Oxford is excellent. I did buy an Oxford level 2 back protector (it comes without one) but that was only £20 from Sportsbike shop.

I've done the airflow jacket and jeans and non waterproof overalls. Never again.
Too much additional crap to carry and change in to.
I've ridden in high 30s and will stick with the goretex gear.

Indeed, especially ooop north where its often very changeable over large counties or cold in spring.

I know a lot swear by them but i felt by Marrakesh armour is very thin, perhaps would be ok offroad, hitting concrete/metal objects at high speed when you weigh 100kg with 2mm of soft rubber in between, jury is out for me.

Settled on Carlsbad. It covers most bases for me.

I use this setup - Klim Zephyr worn under Klim Marrakech worn under BMW Rainlock (I think better than the Scott Ergo Pro)
I just find it so comfortable and flexible.

The only thing I didnt like was the Klim down jacket layer, so I bought the Rukka Lahti Jacket (not down but man made fibre) as it has much thinner arms.
I bought some Klim Switchback pants but much prefer my BMW Summer 3 trousers

Armour has been changed to L2 Diablo all around

I prefer this setup and dont mind stopping when it rains but it is a faff
- unless I know its going to rain a lot over the week, then the old BMW Tourshell suit comes out !

Each to their own - be a bit boring if everyone was the same!

I’ve been using the Klim Zephyr 2 suite that I bought new in 2021 from Motolegends, done a few European trips with it and its spot on upto maybe 30 degrees, after that it becomes a bit much even though the collar clips back in an open position and all the vents are open.

This year I have bought a Klim Marrakesh Jacket which is brilliant in the heat when paired with a pair of RST Kevlar jeans, and for the cooler days I’ve got a set (well two sets actually as they are that brilliant!) of Rukka Mark thermals that go under the Marrakesh but over a t shirt, of course when it wars up the thermal comes off.

As for waterproofs I’ve got a pair of the excellent Richa rain warrior separates. Also I travel alone alot so stopping to put on and take off the waterproofs isn’t really an issue but could soon get you into trouble with a group.

Regarding the Motolegends bloke, well his Mrs helped sort out an issue i had with the armour in the Klim trousers and he ( 4 years after I purchased the suit) helped me sort out a small issue with the jacket so I’ve got nothing but praise for them.

I’ve similar, Klim Induction jacket, Klim Zephyr, then a Belstaff down jacket and an Adventure Spec lightweight waterproof- covers most eventualities, and mostly bought on the Sunday sales. I get 40% off from Adventure Spec anyway so their stuff is always a bargain

It was all half price 😀
Yep, those sales are great. Means buying what you think you’ll want at some point but maybe don’t need right now sometimes.

I bought a pair of the excellent waterproof Rokket jeans in the last sale, to keep for when mine wear out
